I have been running BOINC for awhile now with no pproblems. I have a shell script in my startup folder that fires up BOINC whenever I reboot (which is not very often). This works fine and BOINC runs happily while I do other things. Recently I have been playing a game which BOINC appears to slow down so I kill the BOINC process using Activity Monitor. I have a copy of the shell script that I use to start BOINC but when I run this to get BOINC up again it fails. I get the following messages in the log: 2005-02-16 22:08:03 [---] Starting BOINC client version 4.19 for powerpc-apple-darwin Enter the URL of the project: You should have already registered with the project and received an account key by email. Paste the account key here: 2005-02-16 22:08:03 [http:///] Project prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults Why does the same shell script work fine after a reboot but not after BOINC has been killed? Any hints gratefully received. Thanks Geoff Roynon |

I too having been having this problem. When entering the URL for climateprediction I get the same blank URL you posted in your message. I am running other BOINC projects (SAH, EAH, FAH) and they are working fine. The terminal detached the blank URL. Like to get back to crunching climateprediction data but that doesn't seem possible right now. |

Thanks for your response Geoff. I too found Deep Thought and gave it a try this morning. When I typed in the climateprediction URL it responded with the same blank URL that you mentioned in your first post. Seti and Einstein are running fine. I use Increase to run Folding. |

I would suggest using a Control-C in Terminal instead of killing the process using Activity Monitor. I really don't have much to go on but gut feel for this, but stopping the process in Terminal may give it time to save something, or at least to not stop in the middle of a write to a file. I've only used the Activity Monitor kill when a process won't stop any other way - sort of like using the Command-Option-Escape. I could be totally wrong, too, so...
