I noticed that CPDN saves its current progress about every 30 minutes. Is this somehow configurable to, say, 5 minutes? Since my computers don\'t run all day, this would give me a better feeling.

One of the boinc settings sets it to write to the disk less often, but by default cpdn saves every 144 timesteps which at about 4s/ts would be about every 10 minutes

The BOINC setting only affects the minimum time to write to disk. So if CPDN wants to write every 10 minutes any setting smaller than that has no effect, but if you set it to every 15 minutes it will skip a checkpoint and write every 20 minutes or so.

The write to disk preference was disabled with the previous client. Have they now enabled it?

I'm not sure they use the "atomic write" code yet... Need someone from the dev team at CPDN to confirm this though.

Hi, I suppose write to disk would affect the BOINC core client, but due to the complexity of the model there was no way to implement this on CPDN.

So it is really not so much a 'rule' as a 'guideline' then, right? :)
(for extra points name the movie!)

"Actually, it's more of a guideline than a rule"
- Dr Pete Venkman, GhostBusters(1984)

Closest I could find in the imdb

full quote:

[Dana is possessed]
Dr. Peter Venkman : I make it a rule never to get involved with possessed people.
[Dana starts passionately making out with him]
Dr. Peter Venkman : Actually, it's more of a guideline than a rule...

I was thinking of Pirate of the Caribbean. Not a direct quote I guess and it looks like that isn't the first movie that used such a phrase.

Game over. Thanks for playing.

ah see I knew it was monster-related, the Sta-Puft Marshmallow Man was the scariest creature to ever grace the silver screen!
