Message 15960 - Posted: 13 Sep 2005, 4:35:42 UTC

I apologize for sending this message to this forum but I don\'t seem to be able to find other resource. I have a small problem: I have an account, running a project at my work computer. Now I am trying to install another project at home. It doesn\'t seem to work since the website where I download a project already recognizes my work computer and thinks that I am already attached to the project. Any idea how I can start a new project on my home computer?

Thanks!

Are you trying to open a new account? To attach a new computer, all you need to do is install BOINC and then use \'Attach to new project\' under the projects tab. Use the same url and account number as you were sent first time. If you have done this, then the problem may be that you have now attached but for some reason have not downloaded work - what messages do you get in the messages tab?

Thanks for the reply!

I am not opening new account. I am trying to start a new model using my present account. I can see on my mac (home computer) the other model (run on a pc at work). Under PROJECTS tab I click on \"Attach new project\". It asks for URL and account key. When I enter them, the message board gives the following: Already attached to http://climateprediction.net/.

If you go to your account and view your computers, it shows two - a PC and a Mac. If you drill down and view the page for your Mac and click on \'results\' it shows that you downloaded four WUs which all aborted. BOINC limits the number of WUs that can be sent to you each day and you have reached the limit.

The error code 251 given seems to indicate a Mac specific problem - see this post.

The icon file for that probably was not copied properly in an update. This seems to be common with projects that update the web site infrequently. At least the + and - icons are here those are missing from some projects.

This is probably a very stupid question, but what the blazes does one do with their earned credits?
Also, I am using the most recent Boinc program and it seems to have wiped out all my earned credits and blitzed my account. Is this normal?

Hi,

You\'ll probably find that you now have two Boinc installations on different places in your disk. If you uninstall the most recent one, and then reinstall it into the same location as the original (I bet it\'ll be c:\\program files\\climate change experiment), then you\'ll see your original account and so forth back. Then attach to the project via the attach wizard, existing user, same email address that you used before.

Credits are for bragging about. A bit like the number of points \'earned\' in Scrabble, or the amount of money \'won\' in Monopoly.

For instance this is what one of the stats sites says about my credits for cpdn:
Accumulated more credit than % of all Climate Prediction users: 98.84%
And on the Seasonal Attribution Project, I\'m the number 1 cruncher in Australia.

Not that I take any notice of these things. :)
