Can anyone explain to me why the User of the Day has been the same person ever since I first visited that page? Is the UoD randomly selected, or does voting for someone (i.e. selecting \"I like this profile\") have any effect?

I\'ve also seen somewhere (though I can\'t now find it again) a page for \"User of the Week\" and the same questions apply.

User of the week? never heard about that.
But concerning the UOTD: It usually changes once a day more or less randomly. Probably voting has some influx, but i don\'t know for sure. But here @CPDN the UOTD script is obviously either broken or paused.

BTW:
Do you know this fabulous page: BOINC Users of the Day maintained by the alliance francophone?

User of the week was a manual thing, and hasn\'t been run for well over a year. (Mid 2005, I think.)
It was \'run\' by Hannah, who used to be the administrator in the Oxford University\'s Atmospheric, Oceanic & Planetary Physics section.

She left the project as a full time person when she moved to (I think), Manchester.
Last heard from in relation to the Climate Challenge game.

It involved emailing promenent*** cruncher\'s and asking for some info to be included in their listing.

*** i.e. they needed to have been successful with a few models. Which were very short back then.

PS
This is where the \"Do you want to receive the occasional email from the project?\" comes into it.

Thanks guys - so the UotD here is just random like the BBC one? (Which does change daily though, and the Users in question receive e-mails to let them know they\'ve been \"chosen\".)

Wondered why most of the Users of the Week seemed to be mods LOL - not that you don\'t deserve it of course!

Thanks for BOINC Users of the Day link, Saenger, that\'s fun! I see you haven\'t gone to bed yet BTW ;-)

I bet most of them weren\'t mods back then...

The project was new to boinc then. (BOINC was new then!) Overall, we were participants in the \"Classic\" CPDN Project and some of us ran the CPDNboinc Alpha & Beta tests. Nothing sinister, we were simply around for awhile...

Nothing wrong with that .. seniority should be recognised as long
as it\'s deserved, which it obviously is in this case:)

Oh dear, I always seem to be getting myself into trouble with the mods - last time it was because I seemed to be suggesting they were \"odd\" (not what I meant at all of course! LOL)

This time I absolutely didn\'t intend to complain about mods being users of the week - you\'re all users of the century so far as I\'m concerned, I think you\'re wonderful!

User of the week is gone, but what about user of the day? Can it be fixed?

I\'ll ask Milo if it can be fixed, but if they\'re busy at the moment, this won\'t be their top priority!

Thanks Milo - I think it does encourage people. I used to be a bit taken aback when the UotD in BBC was someone with 0 RAC, but then I noticed that a few of those started trickling again soon thereafter!

Gilbert just became team Scotland\'s first User of the Day in CPDN - unfortunately it was yesterday and I didn\'t get a chance to post here until today:-( Well done anyway, Gilbert!

Plus I noticed that you were a UotD yesterday too, Saenger (though I can\'t remember in which project, sorry) so congrats to you as well!

Regards, MM @ the Pavilion

Oh and DJH@GB-RO, who posted here too, is BBC UotD today. Perhaps posting in this thread is the secret of being chosen, folks! (LOL)

Er, sorry to be a nuisance but I have another question - sometime (maybe when Milo has nothing better to do ROFL!) would it be possible to include a link to the relevant page (or to the AF page listing all the UotDs in the e-mail that\'s sent to UotDs telling them they\'ve been selected? I\'ve seen lots of posts from people saying \"What does this mean and where do I find it?\"

Best regards,

I\'m not sure whether Milo would be able to do anything about this. Are the emails generated by the project or by boinc? I\'ve never received one so I don\'t know. Could someone post/paste a copy of their UotD email and tell us the address it came from?

Hi Mo, I think I\'ve deleted the one I received from the BBC but here\'s a copy of the one Gilbert had from CPDN, which he posted in the Scottish forum:
