yes. I did all that.
I only get a postage stamp sized graphic on the \"simple interface\".

The picture on the front of the simple interface is just a static image (not generated from your model).

anyhow, when I select the model line, the \'show graphic\' button becomes active. pressing that does nothing

All I can suggest is looking on your graphics card manufacturer\'s website (most likely nVidia or ATI) to see if there are any appropriate Linux drivers for the card / chipset.

This is an old thread I know, but this problem is very easy to fix.

You basically have to tell linux that you want to show the graphics. To do this, simply open the terminal and type:

xhost +local:

If you now click on graphics - hey presto - their they are! :-)

I have found though, if you use the 64-bit version of ubuntu, the graphics will appear transparent. This is also \'fixable\' (well sort of anyway). Just download a totally black background picture, open it, then open the graphics over the top of the black background. Not brilliant but it works.

I have the exact same problem. The graphics showed up earlier but then suddenly disappeared for some reason. I\'m new to linux. When I type this in my terminal it tells me:

xhost: bad hostname \"local\"

I think I have to insert my host name in the command line. I tried my computer name:

tir0@tir0s-linux-pc:~> xhost +tir0s-linux-pc
tir0s-linux-pc being added to access control list

But nothing has happened, the graphic still doesn\'t appear.

you mustn\'t forget the \":\" behind local

this is how it should look like :
xhost +local:
non-network local connections being added to access control list

It doesn\'t work for me.
BOINC 5.10.28 client is running on Fedora 8 32bit
BOINC 5.10.28 manager is running on Ubuntu 7.10 32bit
The manager connects to the client over the network.

On the system running the manager I did \"xhost +local:\" or even \"xhost +\" but still nothing. Yes, I did click on the task first. Yes, the task is running.
The manager seems to work fine otherwise with the remote client.

I had this problem with 64bit Ubuntu I came across a cure. If you goto System>Prefrences>Appearence then under the Visual Effects tab select none the problem will go away but of course you lose some visual effects.
I also just discovered Ubuntu will throttle back the clock speed for CPDN and will severely effect the completion time I have a thread about it on th main CPDN forum
