Sorry haven\'t had time to post here for a bit but meantime Iain Inglis, crcam, Egon and labrat have all completed 160-year models, bringing team Scotland\'s total for those models to 98! Labrat says he has another due for completion shortly, so the century can\'t be far off now. Well done, all!

And commiserations to IanM, who recently lost 2 of his long models - apparently he tried to restore them from backup but they just crashed again. Bad luck, Ian! :-(

A very warm team Scotland welcome to Jonathan, who has just joined the team in CPDN and a couple of other projects. Thank you very much for joining us and I hope we meet you sometime soon, either here, in the \"Oxford boards\" or in the Scottish forum - links to all in an earlier post in this thread.

If you also feel like \"parking\" your BBC credits with team Scotland, that would be very nice too! ;-)

Regards, MM

Despite some of our major crunchers experiencing hiccups recently (perhaps you should take more water with it, chaps! ), team Scotland has now passed 15,000,000 credits in CPDN alone. Well done, everybody!

Hi

http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=7201123

Add me to the hickups list. A 160 year model of mine died yesterday. Please don\'t mention the b**kup word. Just don\'t :)

Edward,

I don\'t think the backup would have done you any good! Six \'negative theta\' errors in a row, according to the dump. It was doomed ...

Commiserations Edward and I hope Iain\'s comment is some consolation!

Just as well not to take the occasional model failure personally. Otherwise how would you feel if you were the person who presumably didn\'t notice that he\'d downloaded more than 1300 climate models over the course of a year without crunching a single one of them even for a second, and then received an email from a CPDN admin explaining the situation. Even if you then put things right, on CPDN you would never be able to erase the 1300 models from your record.

Take heart everybody - this only happens if you\'ve never bothered to upgrade from BOINC version 4. The models no longer run on it.

Umm, I don\'t think I knew that, Mo! Better check what version of BOINC I have before I start crunching again - which I hope won\'t be too long.

1300 models without any crunching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IanM has posted in the team Scotland forum:
\"IanM\" wrote:
Just noticed the team has crunched over 100,000 model years (SM3 equivalent).
That may be considered to be quite good :) !

Sounds pretty good to me! See this page of IanM\'s stats for the team.

Here are some other useful team Scotland links for anyone who\'s interested:

MM

You started with the BBC project, which used a \"5\" version.

And the \'1300\' person was only one of many with several hundred to a few thousand.

Thanks Les, I\'m glad you\'re still looking out for me, no doubt I\'ll be asking more silly questions once I start crunching again! ;-)

Best regards, MM

The ex-BBC teams are doing very well. I\'m sure that joining a team is a good strategy for newbies because it means they\'ll have more people supporting and looking out for them.

Oops, forgot to post here that crcam and adempster recently completed 160-year models, bringing team Scotland\'s total for these to 100 - well done, guys!

And Iain Inglis completed yet another 160-year model yesterday, congrats Iain, I think that makes 9 for you!

Yet another warm welcome to meg, who has also just joined the project and the team. Thank you for joining us, meg - we hope you\'ll also come and say hello in one of the forums.

If either of you should need help or advice on getting started, there are some very helpful and knowledgeable people in the Scottish forum, as well as here and in the \"Oxford Boards\". Good luck both, and happy crunching!
