We seem to have acquired a new member over the long weekend but I can't work out who it is - since the recent changes to the BOINC stats, I can no longer find the handy CPDN team member movements page that Iansm kindly pointed out to me. Anyway, welcome whoever you are, thanks for joining team Scotland, happy (continued?) crunching and we hope to "meet" you in one of the climate forums or the Scottish forum. Visit the Scotland team |

Thanks, IanSM, for pointing out to me in the Oxford boards that our new member is Mark, who has just joined CPDN and team Scotland - thank you, Mark! Visit the Scotland team |

I haven't been in here for a bit but just thought it worth posting that team Scotland has recently passed the 65,000,000 credit milestone in CPDN. We're currently in 20th place worldwide for RAC and in 22nd place for total credit. Well done everyone, keep on crunching! Visit the Scotland team |

Hooray, thanks to a new computer (which is otherwise giving me some problems, so this is some consolation!) my RAC has greatly increased recently and I'm currently vying with new team member sir tuesday for team Scotland 10th position in RAC! (He's 10th today - well done, sir, keep it up!) And another new member joined the team last weekend - sorry I'm late mentioning this but busy this week and just didn't have time to work out who it was. So welcome to the project and the team, Marc, thank you very much for joining, happy crunching and we hope to meet you at some point in one of the climate forums ;-) Visit the Scotland team |

Oops, I seem somehow to have made something of a booboo below, sorry - Marc has been a team member for some time (though hasn't yet crunched) and the new member is in fact Paul Casey - the link was correct, but I inserted the wrong name. Sorry Paul and welcome to the team! And another new member joined the team last weekend - sorry I'm late mentioning this but busy this week and just didn't have time to work out who it was. So welcome to the project and the team, oops, should have read Paul Casey!, thank you very much for joining, happy crunching and we hope to meet you at some point in one of the climate forums ;-) Visit the Scotland team |

.... and I'm currently vying with new team member sir tuesday for team Scotland 10th position in RAC! (He's 10th today - well done, sir, keep it up!) Ho, sir tuesday has been ahead of me for a few days in the team RAC rankings and he's 10th today - but I'm 9th! I expect he'll overtake me again during the weekend though ;-) Visit the Scotland team |

Looks like another new member has joined team Scotland in the last few days - after my booboo last time, I think I'll wait for Iansm to tell me who it is! Meantime, welcome, whoever you are and we hope to issue a more personal welcome soon! Visit the Scotland team |

Thank you Ian ;-) So a warm team Scotland welcome to Aubrey McIntosh from the USA - I do hope he or she is not "stuck" as you suggest, but still no trickles. (I'd have assumed Aubrey was male but I gather it's now often used as a female name, especially in the USA, hence "he or she".) Whichever, I hope our new member will get under way soon and we hope to meet him/her at some point either in the Scottish forum or in one of the CPDN forums. Don't hesitate to ask if you need any help or advice, Aubrey, we're a very friendly and helpful bunch! ;-) Visit the Scotland team |

Still no sign of trickles (I nearly typed "tweets", not that I'm obsessed with Twitter or anything!) from our two newest members, I do hope they're not having problems. It's amazing how many people join the project and our team but then never get off the ground. If any new members are having problems, I wish they'd ask somebody, either here or in the Scottish community forum or the "Oxford Boards". If any of them are reading this, believe me I know how difficult it is to put your first toe in the water if you're not in the habit of using this kind of forum. Believe it or not, I resisted for a VERY long time after joining the original BBC project, and only succumbed after a lot of gentle prodding (thank you IanB!!) and when I read a post that I couldn't resist commenting on. Now they can't shut me up (not that anyone's trying to, I hasten to add!) So for any new members similarly reluctant to take that first step of registering in one of these forums and posting a question, please don't be nervous about it, everyone is so friendly and helpful. ;-) Visit the Scotland team |

Hmm, Scotland team forum appears to be offline at present, hope it comes back soon! [Edit: oh, it's back now and there's a post from Webmaster and team leader IanBoyle saying that the website is hosted in New York and so is being somewhat affected by Hurricane Sandy. Which is of course nothing compared to all the people who have been, and are being affected by Sandy. Hope you all stay safe.] Visit the Scotland team |

We acquired a new team member recently and I've been too busy to check it out but I think (no doubt Iansm will correct me if I've got it wrong!) that it must be Colin Neill. Welcome to CPDN and to team Scotland, Colin, happy crunching and we hope to meet you at some point in one of the relevant forums ;-) Visit the Scotland team |

Seasons' Greetings, Yuletide felicitations, Merry Chrismukkah, Festivus, Pancha Ganapati, Dongzhi .............. Fit like a'body. Felt I'd slipped down the order a bit too far so I've been doing a few climate models while the search for new bosons has run out of work while they sort out some problems. Seems work is rare, here, as well and as there hasn't been a lot of work at CPDN Beta, even after the awaited upgrade here there might not be any new flavour of model. I've completed 2 hadcm3n, 1 in progress and one failing with an Invalid Theta at half distance. Wingman's model has just fallen over at the same point. Another resend model has just sneaked (much prefer that to "snuck") in while I wasn't looking. 2 different errors reported for it so far so we'll see how it fairs. |

100 new 40-year models available. Get 'em while they're hot. Just got 2 so that fills this machine 'til mid Jan with 4 models running. |

Chalk up another UOTD for me (just for joining and bothering to create a profile) at the recently opened but not fully active yet, rival climate project based at NASA, Climate@home. They're using the same Virtual Machine route that Test4Theory at Cern uses so you need to instal Oracle's Virtual Box before you can attach. No work from them as yet but I expect a heafty initial download to set up the first VM image (T4T was 1.3GB), with subsequent task downloads being less, but also a massive 3GB upload on completion according to one of the very few posts so far on the boards there. Hope they find a way to compress that to a more manageable level before too many people arrive and complain. Ah, Alphas and Betas are such fun 8) I've set up the team there just to get us rolling and will relinquish control to Ian once he gets there. I spotted the link on the CPDNBeta board last week but Tim got on board before me as usual. Hopefully he'll see this and join up. |

Well done, Ray! It would be nice if a few other team members would create a profile and have a chance of being User of the Day from time to time! It's very easy, just click on "Participant Profiles" in the menu to the left of this page. And you don't have to give any personal information. Visit the Scotland team |

Another Team Milestone; 2 GigaBoincs across all projects. Not bad for only having 69 active members from the 273 with credit. Well done a'body. Somebody with a Champagne gif could maybe insert it here 8) |
