Is the memory required to run hadsm3 higher than before? Or is the server just confused? 17/02/2008 11:25:49|climateprediction.net|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. It\'s a confusing message isn\'t it? It just means that one of the job types on offer (HADAM3) has a large memory requirement - even if the preferences exclude it. So far as I know, the HADSM3 is the same as ever. I\'ll post a message where the project can see it, to see whether a preference-dependent message can be implemented. |

... It might be that your preferences are ineffective - the most common reason for this is \'venues\'. Could you post the top 20 lines or so of your Boinc message log (the bit which says which venue each project is using). Once you have seen the venue for the host, make sure that the venue on the website also has \'HadAM3\' excluded. I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

... Just checked the venues here at climateprediction and all are home (computer/preferences). 17/02/2008 09:37:05||Starting BOINC client version 5.10.30 for windows_intelx86 17/02/2008 09:37:05||log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops 17/02/2008 09:37:05||Libraries: libcurl/7.17.1 OpenSSL/0.9.8e zlib/1.2.3 17/02/2008 09:37:05||Data directory: C:\\Program Files\\BOINC . . 17/02/2008 09:37:05||Processor features: fpu tsc sse 3dnow mmx 17/02/2008 09:37:05||OS: Microsoft Windows XP: Professional Edition, Service Pack 2, (05.01.2600.00) 17/02/2008 09:37:05||Memory: 1023.53 MB physical, 2.40 GB virtual . 17/02/2008 09:37:05||Local time is UTC +0 hours . 17/02/2008 09:37:05|climateprediction.net|URL: http://climateprediction.net/; Computer ID: 798778; location: home; project prefs: default . . . 17/02/2008 09:37:05||General prefs: from http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ (last modified 04-Aug-2007 12:55:10) 17/02/2008 09:37:05||Host location: home 17/02/2008 09:37:05||General prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults 17/02/2008 09:37:05||Preferences limit memory usage when active to 511.77MB 17/02/2008 09:37:05||Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 921.18MB It\'s a confusing message isn\'t it? It really is a confusing message if one has excluded HADAM3, and the server still talks about it. Professor Desty Nova Researching Karma the Hard Way |

Thanks for that. In that case, could you try this? Your account / climateprediction.net preferences / Add seperate preferences for home (at the bottom) / Then tick HadSM3 and leave the others unticked. Save. I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

It may or may not make a difference - but if you receive the same message again, we\'d appreciate knowing about it :-) I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

It\'s a confusing message isn\'t it? It just means that one of the job types on offer (HADAM3) has a large memory requirement - even if the preferences exclude it. So far as I know, the HADSM3 is the same as ever. I can remove this message from the scheduler if it would help. But this would apply in all situations. |

I can remove this message from the scheduler if it would help. Would it not be possible to modify the message to \"Your computer has 1023.53MB of memory. Please ensure your preference settings exlude HADAM3 type jobs which require 1464.84MB\" F. |

I can remove this message from the scheduler if it would help. Or: \"Your computer has 1023.53MB of memory, and a job requires 1464.84MB (only applies to HADAM3)\" Professor Desty Nova Researching Karma the Hard Way |

The trouble is that this is code which is maintained by Berkeley, it can be modified here but the change would disappear again when the server-side code is updated. I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

So the Boinc code interrogates the Science App to determine the amount of memory that may be required? That\'s too clever by half... F. |

Nope, that\'s just a configured entry in a database table. The wording of the message, and when it appears, is the problem... I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

Then maybe in the climateprediction.net preferences something like this: Prefer this type of model Requires 1.5GB RAM minimum [ignore messsage from server if not selected] Professor Desty Nova Researching Karma the Hard Way |
