I have received this error two time since I have returned to this project. Both times I figured that it was because of power failures in my area. A little history. I live in a town in Oklahoma that if the wind blows hard, it rains alot, snows a few inches, any amount of ice, a bird burps, or a fly passes gas, we have a power lose. Sometime for just a second or other times for hours or days. Most of the time it is an off and right back on thing. This is when I get a client error. Now good old spring weather is coming and I would like to know if there is some way I can set up Boinc and my PC to prevent this error. I know the power failures are coming and I really do not want to lose the progress I am making on my tasks. |

The only way to fix this is with a computer that has a good power supply. i.e. one that isn\'t stretched to the limits just running all of the hardware, but has some extra capacity. Failing this, which is usually the case for cheaper ready-to-go computers, then use an \"uninterruptible power supply\" (ups). This will give a bit of extra time for the programs to fully shut down. The climate models have a lot of files open, and if even one or two don\'t get closed, then you can lose the lot. Also, ALWAYS shut down BOINC before turning off the computer. Preferably: Suspend BOINC Wait until it says Suspended Exit BOINC Wait until it closes Turn off computer edit Perhaps I should also mention the obvious: Make frequent backups. Where \'frequent\' is: How much time are you prepared to spend re-running the same part of the model? Daily can be not too frequent in areas of poor power reliability. Backups: Here |
