On the Server status page there\'s a section on the right with a graph called WU Status.

Both my computers have XP.

I cannot see the graph in IE7 or IE8. There\'s just an empty space.

I can see it in Firefox, Safari and Chrome.

Is there something I should do in the two IE versions to make the graph display?

I can sometimes make the CPDN Beta graphs appear by clearing out the IE cache, but that trick doesn\'t work with the absent status graph.

The error I get in IE8 is ...

Webpage error details

User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.0; Trident/4.0; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; InfoPath.2; OfficeLiveConnector.1.3; OfficeLivePatch.0.0; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729)

Where do you see that error message, Iain?

I don\'t think the Server status page graph can be exactly the same as the Beta FAMOUS graphs which I can see in IE8 but not IE7. I can\'t see the WU status graph in either.

Yellow warning triangle in status bar, extreme bottom left.

Double-click it to see the gory details.

This is a new error to me. If fixed we may then return to the previous error, which I griped about somewhere before but cannot remember or find where. With luck the fix for this new error will correct both problems.

(Implicitly, Internet Explorer is a very popular browser and the problem should be fixed if possible. Recommending anything-but-Microsoft is not a fix in my book. Thankfully no-one has yet done that.)

In this respect, I\'m a typical user. My Windows machines come with Internet Explorer installed, it works, so I use it.

I didn\'t even know there was supposed to be a WU graph on the Server Status page.

It is certainly not hard to install Firefox, Chrome, Opera or any one of a dozen other browsers, all free.

I didn\'t know that one could click on the yellow warning triangle for details, so thanks, Richard.

IE7 and IE8 produce slightly different error messages.

Jim, I agree that the various other browsers are easy to install but I don\'t think it\'s the business of CPDN to expect or advise members to use any particular one. On one computer I have four browsers ready to use but as Safari, Chrome and FF all produce text that\'s less solid, black and easy to read on the screen than IE I only use them in certain circumstances.

IE is in any case the most widespread browser at the moment so ideally everything on the CPDN website and Boinc pages should work with it.

I must say that as Safari, Chrome and FF are capable of displaying this graph, I\'m not very pleased that MS hasn\'t given IE the same capability.

Thyme Lawn has pointed out to the moderators that the fourth post here contains the most likely fix for IE. I downloaded ExplorerCanvas but then couldn\'t understand the instructions about what to do with it and haven\'t time atm to find out. There\'s no detailed explanation about how to make it work. This is certainly not a solution we could ever recommend to ordinary CPDN members who use IE.

Seeing the graph isn\'t critical of course because it shows, I think, the same info as the numbers of models shown in the list. But if it\'s there we should all really be able to see it.

If you want even gorier details of the problem, then deselect \"Disable script debugging (Internet Explorer)\" in \"Internet Explorer | Tools | Internet Options | Advanced | Browsing\". That will show exactly where in PlotKit the error occurs.

I assume the fix is server-side, perhaps even in PlotKit itself. That may mean CPDN can\'t fix it except by changing plot package.

That\'s odd, I\'ve been using FireFox since it came out and haven\'t noticed any problems in text readability in years.

The likely solution is in the 4th post here (PlotKit requires excanvas.js to work with Internet Explorer).

Geophi, my two computers are both connected to the screen via a KVM connector which reduces the text blackness compared with a direct connection, so that may explain why some browsers look less clear.

I shouldn\'t have been so miserable: applying the fix client-side works - I\'ve got a plot in IE8! - so a simple header update server-side will fix it for everyone. Good find Thyme.
