While the project has indeed been "unavailable" rather a lot the past 6-8 months, it's not permanently unavailable. Thousands of computers have been both downloading and uploading work. As your computer(s) are hidden, I'm going to make a guess that you're misinterpreting the messages that you're getting, and that the problem is that you don't have the current types of climate models selected, thus preventing any work being downloaded. And, because the project has been short of work over the last 6-8 weeks, a new "backoff" measure has been introduced to try and spread what is available over as many computers/people as possible. Other than that, I know of no reason why a computer cannot be attached or re-attached, either as an existing user, or as a new user. Backups: Here |

Computational error at start after few seconds of start the project gives computational error.stderr.txt is as follows : <core_client_version>6.12.34</core_client_version> <![CDATA[ <message> - exit code -2 (0xfffffffe) </message> <stderr_txt> Could not launch model process. Last Error=216 Called boinc_finish </stderr_txt> ]]> |

This is most likely because you're using/have used the development (test), version of BOINC, which is incompatible with all previous versions. Note that it's not possible to go back to a version 6.* of BOINC after installing a version 7.*, as the client_state.xml file is completely different. It's possible that it's a permissions problem. If so, then the instructions here about detaching from the project and then re-joining may help. Otherwise, you'll have to A) Completely uninstall BOINC and then delete all of the folders associated with it, and then install an older version of BOINC, or B) Stop running (and wasting), climate models, until the new version of BOINC is released for public use. Am I missing something? When I look at the error involved it says the core client is 6.12.34 and yet the computer shows as BOINC 7.0.3. I am sure there is a simple explanation for this but I am not seeing it @ the moment. Dave |

I think that the answer lies in my first two sentences. According to the BOINC boards, once you install version 7, you can't go back. And I think that this is what has been done, perhaps a few times. Up to the cruncher to sort it out. Backups: Here |

Hi I've decided to post it here rather than creating new thread or using the New Work thread. So from the latter But if you do detach, you can take the opportunity to also change to the new https address when re-attaching, which is https://www.cpdn.org. I just tried to see how it works. I use BOINC 7.2.42 (x64), Ubuntu 14.04LTS via BAM!. 1. I quit BAM! 2. Removed CPDN 3. Tried to reattach through Add project using https://www.cpdn.org NO LUCK 4. BOINC responded: No such project or no project with such parameters 5. Successful reattach with http://climateprediction.net 6. Switched back to BAM! Is it 1) a problem that I cannot attach to the new URL and is it 2) a problem that the connection is not via SSL? |
