I can't believe my eyes, 14,000 new work units. Feast or famine, I guess we'll be busy for a while. |

Up to 21,000+ now, just waiting for some regional models for my netbook now. |

Now about 49,000. Could give us all a clue about priorities. |

Way back there was discussion about whether to have credit or not IIRC, perhaps a decision has been made by somebody who hasn't informed others? The problem is that it's going to be a pain managing multiple projects. I run six as they all drop in and out of work and my systems are on 24/7 for work anyway. Very frustrating for Crunch Heads who tend to have good systems I'd imagine. Basically have to dedicate machines exclusively to CPDN. They should rewrite the points scripts from scratch. We know everything else is working, so we're talking about access, adding and insertion. I know this is easier said than done, but no one at Oxford is capable of doing this? How long is the drive from Cambridge? |

Look on the bright side. One day, hundreds of years hence, our distant descendants will get a surprise present from the past - a whole bunch of credits :-) Just kidding. Sooner or later all the credits will suddenly appear, the admins are still looking at it when they can (between firefighting). I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. Don't know about by car but it is about 3 hours on the coach from Cambridge to Oxford. |

Don't know about by car but it is about 3 hours on the coach from Cambridge to Oxford. And only one or two milliseconds by the enormous bandwidth on the ARPAnet :/) |

"firefighting" = fixing the servers and programs every time users break something. |

Yeah exactly, running from crisis to crisis with little time to do anything else. I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

Oh, sorry, I thought you meant this, I'm 4 miles from it. Lost my power and I'm running on my generator now. http://www.mymotherlode.com/news/index.php |

Oh, sorry, I thought you meant this, I'm 4 miles from it. Lost my power and I'm running on my generator now. Hope they get it under control soon, fires are pretty scary. When I was in Australia one got to about 1/2 a mile away, we ran for the hills... I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

"firefighting" = fixing the servers and programs every time users break something.Couldn't it have been left at: "firefighting = fixing the servers and programs", period? By users do you mean volunteers or researchers? And if the system is so fragile that volunteers and/or researchers break things is that their fault? |

belfry: les was making a "tongue in cheek" observation of the situation...it is the combination of machines/OSs/networks/jobs running on both ends (servers and crunchers) that discover obscure hairballs that choke things up and require lots of troubleshooting...he was not really blaming us volunteer crunchers... frank |

I have asked the admins about the credit situation & they're still trying to figure out where the problem is. The CPDN credit system is weird & complex internally. I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

Looking at the server status page, it seems like the drop in the number of crunchers mean that new tasks are only being taken when old ones finish. My dilema, to add hadcm3n type units back for my netbook or not? It seems like a long time since there were any regional models other than the odd re-issue. |
