Message 48597 - Posted: 28 Mar 2014, 13:40:12 UTC

Hello,

My computer has been running 4 HADAM3P models for about 36 hours each and I have uploaded 4 trickles from each model but my credit score both locally, on this site, and on BOINCstats have not been updated. I know that BOINCstats will not be updated for some time, but I still should have updated credits here.

Below is one of the 4 tasks my computer is running and it shows received trickles but my stats on CPDN are not correct. I know stats only update once per day, but some trickles have been uploaded 2 days ago now.

http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=16401969

Does anyone have any ideas on why my credits are not reflecting uploaded trickles?

We do know that the daily script that scrutinises the reported trickles and re-calculates credits hasn't been running for a while (about two weeks, I think).

However, we don't know exactly what caused it to fail. And we also know that the limited number of admin staff have been very busy, first with a special batch of research requests to examine the UK excess rainfall this winter, and more recently launching a much larger batch of ANZ models.

The admins do know about the credit drought, but I'm afraid the real climate is being given higher priority right now.

The credits haven't been updated on BoincStats for more than two weeks but we don't need to worry because the CPDN programmers always sort out this sort of thing eventually. We do, however, need to be patient!

It seems that the trickle and completed credits for Workunit 8896123 stopped updated at some point in the last few days.

It's not just the credits. The trickles themselves (or my latest two at least) are now not being added to the task details on the site.

Last Trickle recorded for my task was no.9, recorded on 6 June.
Task now complete and trickles 10 - 13 reported as uploaded through Boinc but they don't appear on the task page. stderr is there so all the data has probably got home, just not reported on the site as such yet.
I'm used to credits taking a while to update but not used to trickles being missing.

I'm seeing the same sort of thing... Glad (but sorry!) that I'm not alone. :-)

One host that's been running models for several days doesn't show trickles that have been uploaded. For most of them, the most recent recorded trickles are from June 5th or 6th. However, one shows an update from the 7th and another just today (June 9th).

Just to reassure everyone, trickles not going on to the models' pages has happened before and been sorted out. I would guess that this might help identify which script(s) has/have fallen over.

Yes. Thanks. My own missing trickles have appeared this morning. My credit's not been updated since a couple of trickles before them, but I'm used to that.

This is neither a question of the 42 answer order, but is there any purpose in trickling at all? Running 8 euro models concurrent on one machine and they're well into the 60th hour, another 30 projected to go, and no credits have appeared though the client log in leaps and bounds shows intermediate results are being uploaded, sometimes with hourly interval, sometimes a multi-hour break and then another hourly series. Here's one trickle log:

As can be seen from a copy/paste of the current result status page, no credit at this time, though running uninterrupted:

Not that credit interests me all too much, but if there's a system, why does it appear to be so heckish inconsistent? The below still shows as recent results, one 1.3 million seconds getting 4.9k and another 1.3 million getting 7.1k. The device runs locked in on 3.7ghz, not like it's crawling on one and racing on the next.

Some part of the credit system apparently needs to be recompiled before it can be scheduled to run at regular intervals: until that is done the credit updates rely on one of the project staff running the script manually, which happens irregularly.

As for the trickles themselves, it is perhaps worth pointing out that they are not only for the purpose of awarding credits on long and error-prone models but that they can also supply some 'real' data to the science team. Whether or not that happens varies from application to application: presumably the need for result visibility is the determining factor - for short models, such as the HADAM3P models, there's not much to gain by loading the trickles with data when the much more capable Zip files arrive at pretty much the same rate.

the Credit Script is down again. It doesnt seem to have run in the last 2 or 3 days. Please fix.
