Well, something changed because my total credit is now the amount is was um... probably 8 or 9 years ago. So... confusing, but at least something changed. O.o |

I'm back too -- with credits received during the outage....looks about right. |

I sent through a trickle-up this morning. Instead of recovering my lost credit, I lost another approx 50,000, in addition to the credit lost on 14 March. No recent trickle-ups seem to be showing on the credit total. This is not meant as a complaint, since I understand the problem is being worked on. It is simply to advise those involved that there is still an issue, despite some people recovering their credit. PRL |

I rejoined the project recently (during the CP stats outage) after a break of several years and my trickles since have now been credited (not in BOINCstats yet, but in the account and visible in BOINC Manager). However, the credit I held previously (27,936) is now gone (but for the moment still visible in BOINCstats). Just to let you know, hope it helps to fix things (and maybe I'm just impatient and the scripts are not through yet). wolfbert |

In addition to credit lost several days ago, I have just lost another 600000, even though others are mentioning here in the message boards that they are getting their credit back. Something's not right. |

My suspicion is that some of the many scripts worked, and others didn't. The graph in the Statistics part of the BOINC manager for one of my computers shows a drop in the past 24 hours for Total, but switching to Host Total, it shows an increase. This increase for that computer reflects what is shown in the Account page for the total for that computer, when several models got their final credit. However, Andy's been informed about this. |

Further to Les's last post, Andy thinks it may be pre2011 credit that is now missing. Suffice it to say that he is on the case. |

I would say that's exactly what I'm seeing. The bulk of my work would have been from 2004-2012. I kind of got out of actively participating in BOINC projects for a few years and then returned about a month ago. Boy, my BOINCstats information is going to look very whacky for this month. ;-) |

Whereas, because the number of computers I have been running has increased since then and they are faster, it will have less of an effect on my total, though had I not lost access to the email of my original account there would have been quite another 5 years to add - from about 2005-9. |

If you were to look at the News and Announcements thread, I made a post about this a few hours ago. Some of us have 30 to 60 projects we are involved in, plus lives outside of BOINC and we aren't going to be checking the News threads. If you want to get the information to us then the ONLY reliable method is a notice to the BOINC client. FYI, instead of restoring credit the repair scripts took away even more a few minutes ago. |

This is actually quite wrong. I have spent many years watching the temperatures and energy used by my machines as they heat my house. A CPU sitting idle will use a couple watts and hover just above room temperature. A machine used for viewing TV shows or browsing uses about 15 to 25% and pushes the curve up to 10 (on a 35W profile) to 40 watts ( on a 135W TDP). A intensive game will maybe drive the cores up to an average 35 to 70% usage and into the 25W(35W profile) to 75W(135W profile) range 4 to 8 Climate WU runs the CPUs up to 100%, drives the power profile up maximum output (35W or 135W) and the temp of the CPU's heads up to 70 to 80C. GPU's crunching is similar to even more extreme as a machine on 24/7 just doing nothing will have a GPU in black screen and doing nearly nothing. Watching videos or playing games don't drive GPU's to like a 100% usage WU. These WU are responsible for 70 to 95% of the power usage on any machine that they are run upon. It's not MARGINAL at all. In 2013, global computing power consumed 10% of the world's electric power generation. Cloud computing centers are supposedly (company advert is suspect, need a better source) using more power than the entire country of India in 2016. |

FYI, instead of restoring credit the repair scripts took away even more a few minutes ago. As I said a few posts earlier, Andy thinks it is the pre-22011 credit that has gone, as you have been crunching since well before that it has hit you. If it isn't fixed soon, because of the weekend and public holidays, not much is likely to change till Tuesday. |

True enough, but in winter time you wont need to use the heaters so much, since the PC's heat your rooms :) And the research is valuable. I think it was marginal many years ago? Back when Athlon64's were the thing? I read somewhere that a search on google uses as much electricity as a 60 watt light bulb does for 17 seconds. Now back to topic :) |

As an aside and not to divert the thread too greatly, the word "marginal" is sometimes used in marmot's sense of "small", but also means "at the margin" as in the expression "marginal cost". In addressing the question of 24/7 running, the word was used in the second sense and not the first: in effect, marmot argues that the marginal cost of running a CPDN model is "large" relative to the cost of the running an idle PC - that's actually a good thing, as it means the PC is efficient. However, it only produces a disagreement if "marginal" is allowed to have only one meaning, which it doesn't. |

Hello (...) So either the scripts haven't finished, or some haven't worked. My own big test is a fast daily watch at stats pages, check for negative scores and check which project delivers negative scores. Almost always Climate Prediction. Therefore, I'll consider relaunching Climate Prediction the very day it has not delivered negative scores to any chuncher, meaning that these bothering problems of signs have been solved. |

I'm still missing 1,3000,000 credit, but at least it starting to add some credit to the total. |

It may get a bit worse before it gets better. But credits were originally meant for seeing who could get the most. And at the moment the credits are getting lost. So, I've lost 2,097,850 credits, so I win! :) Or should that be :( ? |
