My little Linux server is getting hungry for work. I'm now working a lot more SETI than CPDN. Any ideas when new Linux WU are coming?

I have now got BOINC installed under wine on my machine but will only get around to trying it if no more linux tasks arrive before I run out of what is there. I picked up a resend of one of the latest batch the other day so there are almost 700 hours of processing to go before I run out on the machine that runs 24/7.

I will let the boards know how I get on with it.

It looks like all of us Climate crunchers are only going to get a lump of coal in our Christmas stocking this year.

WINE is an option I was thinking about trying on one of my Linux boxes. From past experience running Windows binaries was rather a crap shoot, some did work but more didn't. So I think it's great getting Windows BOINC installed, but whether the CPDN tasks will run could be a different matter. I'll be very curious how it goes for you.

Now that power cord getting pulled over Christmas has got rid of tasks from one machine, BOINC has successfully attached to CPDN. Just waiting for tasks now to see how it works.

George who suggested it to me is an experienced cruncher and one of the moderators and has been successful with it himself. However don't start the wine one when you have linux one running, they won't work together and I think it may have made my linux client detach from the project losing the work it had.

As soon as I can offload some obligations I working on, I'm going to have to try it. Sounds indeed like WINE has aged nicely, more stable than it used to be. FWIW all the Linux tasks either finished or crashed in the last couple of weeks, so ATM none are running. Since it doesn't appear too likely new Linux work units are on the horizon, starting up WINE a few weeks from now shouldn't be a problem.

Does anybody know when again WU for windows come?

Only the researchers know that.

Chances are, they will want to look at the very wet late December weather that led to the recent floods in the Mississippi Valley. If those are going to be periodic with El Nino, there will need to be a lot more planning for them.

According to the science page for the Mexico models, it's for 2004-2005.

4 Tasks currently downloading under Wine :) estimated time to completion 46 days but that could mean anything as under wine it counts as a new machine running windows XP! First has now been running for 4 minutes giving .03% completed which I estimate as a tad over 10 days to completion.

Now they have been going a bit longer I think we are looking at around 20 days to completion.

All four now up and running, longest has been going for 25 minutes so looking good.

All WAH2_eu tasks.

I am running 9 WAH2_eu on two machines ranging from 10 minutes to 5 1/2 hours, with no early failures yet. It is a promising start.

But on a third machine where BOINC is installed as a service (otherwise similar to the first two, where BOINC is not installed as a service), I had the first one error out after only 19 seconds. But a second one is running on that machine after an hour, so it is somewhat inconsistent. I have seen that before with some types of work. (Win7 64-bit, BOINC 7.6.22 for all).

This is not a good sign. I will not run these any longer as a service.

Running 6 on two machines. Three new issues and 3 re-issues. About 5 hours in so far and looking OK.

4 EU running under Wine.
4 trickles/zips each have been uploaded, at just under 12 hours apart, so 6 days to complete.
Which is a bit different to the initial 1000 hours estimate when first downloaded. (After 50 hours running, they're now down to about 640 hours to go.)

zip size started at about 68.6 M, but is slowly increasing in size.
