Batches seem to be behaving like buses. Specifically, like No73 buses that always hunted in packs when I lived in London. Batch 781, another SAFR50 batch has been poured into the hopper. |

There's a new batch, 782, of 1335 HADCM3S, but it seems to be duff as they're all failing quickly - the project has been informed. |

I tried batch 782 on both an i7-3770 (Ubuntu 16.04) and a Ryzen 2700 (Ubuntu 18.04), and they both failed in about 14 seconds. So they seem to be both processor and OS agnostic. |

Got 4 of the 782s on my Ubuntu 18.04 LTS T8300 PENRYN all crashed less than 20 seconds. Will crash few more on another Ubuntu with i7-4790. |

Good, we crashed 'em all. Happy new year ;) Yes, and with different operating systems: Linux 2.6.32-754.9.1.el6.x86_64 Darwin 17.7.0 Linux 2.6.32-754.9.1.el6.x86_64 or different hardware: GenuineIntel Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2603 0 @ 1.80GHz [Family 6 Model 45 Stepping 7] GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU 550 @ 3.20GHz [x86 Family 6 Model 37 Stepping 5] AuthenticAMD AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 960T Processor [Family 16 Model 10 Stepping 0] So it is difficult to blame our hardware of software. Gotta blame it on the work units. This one in this case: hadcm3s_zg3_190012_120_782_011725976 |

The researcher thinks that he knows "where", but not "why", yet. There's a new batch on the way with a replace data file. |

Interesting! I've done some research on ENSO for many university courses (I've got a Master's specializing in atmospheric science) and have found that Southern Africa typically sees drier and warmer conditions from El Nino events. That period of 2015-16 was a moderate El Nino event. It will be fascinating to see what this simulation shows! |

Now that the server has free space again (at least for the monument) is there any sign of new work. I am within a few days of having empty cores on 2 of my machines and already have an empty core on this machine |

The researchers aren't there to provide people's computers with work. Work only happens when they need some data analysed. There are ideas being tested, but at the moment, conferences seem to be "the order of the day". When more work is available, it will appear. |

Perfect time for the project to clear the problems log and work on the wish list ;) |

Perfect time for the project to clear the problems log and work on the wish list ;) Also good time for crunchers to clean heatsinks, and review dusty old software and bloatware, and catch up on reboots. :) smiley :) And search for other projects to work on until -- |

With the message to abort 781's I am down to three tasks between two machines. On one of them the only reason I have any left is I stopped those running under WINE and had a couple of hadcm3s tasks running which have now finished. |

So now is when you want to do all the OS patches that require reboots and change the fan that rumbles a little now and then ? CPDN has just taken away the excuse... but I have that long running WU that I don't want to disturb ! Bill F |
