Message 58346 - Posted: 10 Jul 2018, 1:40:32 UTC

Just got this message in my BOINC Event Log:
7/9/2018 8:33:32 PM | climateprediction.net | update requested by user
7/9/2018 8:33:34 PM | climateprediction.net | Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.
7/9/2018 8:33:34 PM | climateprediction.net | Not requesting tasks: suspended via Manager
7/9/2018 8:33:37 PM | climateprediction.net | Scheduler request completed
7/9/2018 8:33:37 PM | climateprediction.net | This project is using an old URL. When convenient, remove the project, then add https://climateprediction.net/

Les, can you confirm this is necessary and provide details as to how to add the project back correctly...I'm not sure how to do what the error message is suggesting. CPDN Server status is saying all servers are up. Should we abort all in process tasks??

7/9/2018 9:49:41 PM | | Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
7/9/2018 9:49:43 PM | | Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

A long time ago, there were some posts about this in the Wish list.

SSL Certificate

At that time, testing was still ongoing, but people could switch to the https url if they wanted to. I did, and I've still got all of my fingers. :)

As for now, Andy has been talking about the 2 different urls, but not in a specific "inform the users" manner
I just tried the BOINC Attach process, and it's still showing the old unsecure url, so I'll have to ask Andy about specifics.

It's currently 4.14am Tuesday morning in the UK, so it'll be a few hours before any answers.

As for Aborting, this depends on which server they came from:
The old "original" server
The backup/mirror server while repairs were under way
The new server that keeps appearing and disappearing

Also:
How old the tasks are
Can you upload the results
Will it worry you if they latter disappear, along with credits, due to further strange events soon to appear

Basically, people should set cpdn to No New Tasks until this is all settled, and don't start or Abort anything.

Still unable to attach with new url, however my tasks have all uploaded now, servers are all showing as running so there is progress. Andy has been asked about the URL so unless he has been pulling an all nighter on this it will be an hour or a bit more till he gets the message.

And now the servers are all red again. As I used to hear when in the forces a few years ago, "Hurry up and wait."

And https://climateprediction.net/ is NOT the new url.

It would be nice if everyone was a bit more patient, but it seems that isn't going to happen. :(

Correct new url is https://www.cpdn.org/cpdnboinc/ I have just been able to attach with this.

As to getting work etc. Waiting is still the order of the day but as the tasks I had finished uploaded earlier, there is clearly more progress.

Thanks Les. I'll just hang on and not change anything until Andy can assure you that all is well. I don't want to remove the project to change the URL without guidance -- since I assume this would effectively abort all current in-process tasks on all 7 of my machines.

I have all my machines which run CPDN in "suspended" status currently. Will wait for further guidance....:)

I went through some of the motions of switching, and it offers

http://www.cpdn.org/cpdnboinc/

as the new URL. I did not complete the process. Some seem to think the new URL is http; others seem to think it is https.

In my Event Logs, it says

Tue 10 Jul 2018 02:15:54 AM EDT | climateprediction.net | You used the wrong URL for this project. When convenient, remove this project, then add https://climateprediction.net/

I do not think anyone agrees with this.

Since I am running Linux, it makes no sense to hurry, since I assume there will be no Linux work units anyway.

I have for the first occasion in a long time got a scheduler request completed message. (Attached via

https://www.cpdn.org/cpdnboinc/

Two things remain to test whether all is working for me.

1:Before next request in an hour I need to change my settings so I don't get a job cache full message.

2:Some tasks in the hopper to collect!

While there may well still be things that need resolving it dows feel like it is getting there.

For heaven's sake! Having been away for a few days I come back to find the 'You are using an old URL. Remove the project and switch to..' message from BOINC. Naively assuming this meant all was now fixed, I did as BOINC suggested. From this thread, though, it looks as though a) this was the wrong thing to do and b) BOINC hasn't even provided the correct URL.

Result: I (and CPDN) have lost the 24-day unit that's been waiting for a couple of months to be reported, and I'll probably have to remove and add the project again at some point. (I don't mind so much that my 'work done' total is now lower than before, but I bet some people will.)

CPDN will end up with just a hard core of users who need to monitor the forum on an hourly basis.

Very frustrating. Ah well - there are other projects...

Hi All,

We will be taking the project offline at 1pm (UK time) today in order to take a database dump. This is part of the work of re-establishing a master-slave database setup. Once the database dump has completed the project will be brought back online again later today.

Best regards,

Andy
