I have little doubt useful work is still being done. A couple of the current batches do have problems with a high error rate which the project people are looking into but very much there is still useful work being done and to be done as the very high temperatures in much of Europe this year attest to.

I have been working on Climate Prediction since 5 Aug 2004 and run up 2,964,384 credits. None lately as there have been no Linux work units in a long time. I used to get enough work units to keep three of my 4 processors busy 24/7, but not in many many months.

I wonder if they will ever supply Linux work units again?

They continue to explore new areas of the world and new climate events, usually in the past. How successful it is depends on how well they sell their ideas to policy makers. It would help for them to make the questions they ask and areas they study as relevant as possible.

There is a 32-bit Linux app. If you present a 32-bit Linux environment to CPDN, you should get some work. Any method to present a 32-bit "machine" to CPDN should work ... Wine, Virtualbox, ... I think you just have to be able to run the 32-bit version of BOINC.

The CPDN code is dynamically linked and it takes some work for crunchers to get the right 32-bit packages installed on a 64-bit machine to make it work. It would be trivial for CPDN to add some assert code and display a helpful message about what 32-bit library support is missing on the 64-bit system, but CPDN is really struggling to make the simple stuff work.

There are comments about missing libraries in the climateprediction.net board under the reporting misconfigured computers thread - though you may have to go back several months to find them.

For 32-bit support, this worked for me with Ubuntu 16.04:

However, I think the "gcc-4.7-multilib" is different in later versions of Ubuntu, though it may not be needed at all.
You will probably never find out though, as I doubt you will get any work. Might as well stick with Windows.

If there's a lib file missing, it'll be mentioned in the Tasks page under errors.
And it'll most likely be the very old libstdc++.so.6, which, I think is only included for old versions of Centos.

And may I take the opportunity to mention Wine? It works great. It even runs the sam25's that lots of computers are crashing at 3 minutes for some reason.

I tried that in the past,I still had to install a couple of missing 32 bit libs, some got installed automagically with the 32bit BOINC but not all.

There are fairly straightforward instructions both on these boards and on BOINC'S own boards about installing the missing libs. (There are a couple of other projects that have this problem though I forget which ones at the moment.) Sadly, the work to convert the CPDN code to all 64bit is not trivial. It is complicated by the fact that the code belongs to the Met Office here in UK and CPDN don't have open source type license to alter it at will.

I have a 64-bit machine, but I do have both the normal 64-bit libraries and the 32-bit compatibility libraries. I had no problem running CPDN code until (I guess) about a year ago, but then the number of tasks available dropped way down. I got two work units last April that completed correctly (they were obviously very old tasks that timed out on the other crunchers).

But since then all I get are:

No missing files that I know of. In particular, on my Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.10 (Santiago) system, I have:
