I would like to know if the share process on HT is for each processor of for the whole computer. For example, I've now 2 WU who are computed in same time. Does the second WU of CP take times on the first one or on the other projects ? Thanx! --- |

The resource share is for the whole computer. When you're running multiple projects BOINC controls how jobs get assigned to the virtual processors based on the relative resource allocation for the projects, so it's certainly possible for one CPDN job to be preempted by the other one.
Join us here |

Errrr... how could it be possible if share is for the whole computer ??? the two WU are, for computer, the same entity until the computing time is added in a same number to be compared to other project... no ? BTW, extra question: why some weeks ago I was seeing "preempted" sometimes and no, for a long time, only "pause". What's the difference between this two cases of stoping project and passing to the next ? --- |

It's all to do with the BOINC resource debt. It could happen if one CPDN job comes to the end of its BOINC scheduled slot and the other one has the highest resource debt of any of the waiting jobs. > BTW, extra question: why some weeks ago I was seeing "preempted" sometimes > and no, for a long time, only "pause". What's the difference between this two > cases of stoping project and passing to the next ? It changed between BOINC 4.05 and 4.09. I guess it was decided that the "Pausing result" was more user friendly than "Preempting result".
Join us here |
