On my Pentium Xeon 4CPU 2.8GHz only 3 of the 4 cpu\'s are working om climate prediction. Other projects like SETI and LHC work on 4 cpu\'s. Running Boinc core client 4.09. I have 8GB assigned and Boinc may use up to 8 cpu\'s. Why can\'t I download a 4th wu for climate prediction. At the moment no work from other projects. |

Each CPDN job will require 700MB. To get 4 units running CPDN will need to be able to use at least 2.8GB, so it'll need a relative resource share of at least 35% before it'll download a 4th one. CPDN will also need an extra 330MB to store the results of each model as it completes, so you might have to give CPDN an even higher relative resource share. <br><a href="http://www.teampicard.net"><img src="http://www.teampicard.net/templates/fisubice/images/phpbb2_logo.jpg"></a><a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/team_display.php?teamid=3">Join us here</a> |

This is what Boinc sees when I look at the computer that has this problem: CPU type Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 2.40GHz Pentium Number of CPUs 4 Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition, Service Pack 1, Memory 1023 MB Cache 976.56 KB Swap space 2464.1 MB Total disk space 33.87 GB Free Disk Space 25 GB My general preference is: Connect to network about every 1 days On multiprocessors, use at most 8 processors Write to disk at most every 60 seconds Limits on disk space and memory used by BOINC: Use no more than 8 GB Leave at least 1 GB Use no more than 50% of total space Use no more than 75% of total virtual memory Climate prediction has 50% resource share. If what you tell me is true, then these settings are more than enough, wright? And still boinc doesn't download a 4th wu. So, my question still stands. :-( |

> If what you tell me is true, then these settings are more than enough, wright? > And still boinc doesn't download a 4th wu. Your preference settings should be fine. You could just about be on the limit for memory (60MB for each CPDN model, with a 25% limit for CPDN), but I don't think BOINC checks the memory resource share yet. Your problem could be due to <a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=1045&post=5265#5265">this</a>. <br><a href="http://www.teampicard.net"><img src="http://www.teampicard.net/templates/fisubice/images/phpbb2_logo.jpg"></a><a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/team_display.php?teamid=3">Join us here</a> |

Oke, my problem is solved. I don't know if you ment this, but this is what I did. 1 of 4 cpu's didn't get work from climate prediction and had no work from other projects. Although I had more than enough recourses allocated boinc didn't download a 4th wu for climate prediction. Then I modified the recourse settings to 80& for climate prediction and 20% for other projects. Then Boinc did start downloading a 4th climate wu. I think boinc looks at the number of cpu's (4 in my case) and downloads enough work for the % recourse share for each project. So there must be more then 75% (or 3 cpu's of 4 cpu's) recourse shere for climate for it to download work for 4 cpu's. If I had between 50 and 75 % I would get 3 wu. Between 25 and 50% 2 and less then 25% 1 wu. So, my problem is fixed. If you meant this, thank you. |
