Message 5600 - Posted: 24 Oct 2004, 10:57:25 UTC

Some Problems with my iBook:
\"Deferring communication with project for 5 dys etc....\"

1. What should I type into the terminal?
2. In which folder I have to be:
2a BOINC or
2b Boinc/projects/climaprediction.net ?
3. what else can be the reason?

I am using the BOINC 4.05 Software.

Thank you for your support,
esquisse

I have seen this same type of message - usually when I am not connected to the internet. When the CPDN tries to connect to the internet to report progress and you are not connected, it defers connection time for one minute. It then tries again, defers for two minutes, etc., with progressively longer deferral times. About the only solution I've been able to come up with is to calculate when it will next try to connect, and make sure I am connected to the internet at that time.

Thx for your response this is what happens:

First I tried this:

---
Maggie:~/Library/BOINC myname$ ./boinc_4.09_powerpc_apple-darwin -update_prefs http://www.climateprediction.net
-bash: ./boinc_4.09_powerpc_apple-darwin: No such file or directory
---

than this:

---
Maggie:~/Library/BOINC myname$ ./boinc_* -update_prefs http://www.climateprediction.net 2004-10-28 09:52:11 [---] Starting BOINC client version 4.09 for powerpc-apple-darwin

---

looks like I am using the 4.09 Client

I am not good typing something into the terminal. Is this the problem:

---
2004-10-28 09:52:11 [---] get_local_network_info(): gethostbyname failed
---?

Than I do not know how to konfigure the Mac, because I can chek Emails, surfing the internet and so...

Thx for the attention and help,
esquisse

> Hi,
>
> You can update by stopping the current running boinc and typing (in the boinc
> install directory):
>
> ./boinc_4.xx_powerpc_apple-darwin -update_prefs
> http://www.climateprediction.net
>
> where xx is the minor version of the boinc client (newest being 11)
>
> This should recommunicate with the server and transmit back your trickles /
> completed work units.
>
>

I have a similar problem. When I tried your above suggestion all I got was this:

>

That looks like it was just a very temporary network glitch. That all transpired in under a second.

The next line down it found the project and recognized the Host ID. You are up and running just fine.

Ok thanks,

But I don't seem to have any trickles registered yet. Why would that be?

10,802 timeslices equals a trickle. There are 72 trickles per work unit.

Do you see anything like this in the terminal that would indicate it has connected to upload?

Yes I have had something like this come up. Does this mean I have trickled? How come my personal page shows no trickles or points yet.

Thanks for your help.
