Hello! Hi, Stefan, welcome aboard, You included your Acount Key in your post. For your account security, I recommend you edit it out. " BOINC couldn't get main page for http://climateprediction.net/. " I don't know where the period came from; it isn't in your "Enter the URL..." line. Grasping at straws: please be sure you didn't include blanks in your Copy/Paste. Did you download boinc from: http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/ ? This doesn't apply to your current problem but please insure that you allowed plenty of disk space, in Preferences, for CPDN to run in. Minimum is 700 Meg. per run, plus 332 Meg for each finished run (for the Archive file; this file can be moved elsewhere for safekeeping when the run is finished). More is better. Many people had trouble finding settings that would work to prevent download errors. Almost forgot -- after you get a good download, it is necessary to change Permissions on the extracted CPDN files to allow execution. We have met the enemy and he is us -- Pogo |

They are all set to 'x' for everyone. Does it need to run under a specific user? Thanks! Stefan |

I can´t find a link to edit the post. Sorry. I should have mentioned it. In the top line, upper-left corner of your original post, there is a blue [edit this post] hot link. Just click on it and delete the Account Key. > > > " BOINC couldn't get main page for http://climateprediction.net/. It looks okay and the final "/" should not matter but you might try it without the final "/". I know little about software firewalls (I use a router instead) but some people have had problems getting through them. As far as I know, the only port used in boinc/CPDN is Port 80, so there should be no problem there. If you use a firewall, it may be necessary to add http://climateprediction.net to the list of allowed sites. (Sorry, I don't know how to do it.) There are also some CPDN mirror sites scattered around the world and a few people had firewall troubles with them. > > > Did you download boinc from: > http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/ ? > > I used the link offered by climateprediction´s website after registering as a > new user. > > > This doesn't apply to your current problem but please insure that you > allowed > > plenty of disk space, in Preferences, for CPDN to run in. Yes, if you set the percentages high enough (I give it 95% of 100 Gig [I don't have that much] and leave at least 0.1 Gig.) > > > > Almost forgot -- after you get a good download, it is necessary to > change > > Permissions on the extracted CPDN files to allow execution. > > They are all set to 'x' for everyone. Does it need to run under a specific > user? I do the same, though I'm the only user of my machines. There is supposedly a way to make it always run in the background mentioned on the Board but I paid no attention to it because I'm always logged on. (You can search the Boards with the "Search" function on the BOINC Questions and Problems page, upper left corner.) A few people apparently run it as Root. Otherwise, the logged-on user runs it. > > > Thanks! > Stefan You're welcome; I hope it helps. We have met the enemy and he is us -- Pogo |

I just tried it without my firewall turned on, but that didn´t change the problem. Still, I´m not able to start, I receive: 2004-10-24 14:01:53 [http://climateprediction.net/] Master file fetch failed 2004-10-24 14:01:53 [http://climateprediction.net/] Master file fetch failed BOINC couldn't get main page for http://climateprediction.net/. Please check the URL and try again. 2004-10-24 14:01:53 [http://climateprediction.net/] Resetting project 2004-10-24 14:01:53 [http://climateprediction.net/] Detaching from project The thing is, it CAN download the Master file, but obviously it can´t go on. So what´s wrong here? Stefan |

Hi, Stefan, Do you connect via dial-up? If so, you may be caught by unforgiving boinc downloads -- no re-trys. (It seems strange, though, that they'd all fail at the same place.) Carl gave this response to another person with the same error: you could try the direct link i.e.: http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc Beyond that, I'm out of ideas, Stefan. Sorry. No. I´ve got a DSL - connection, which is resetted every 24hours, but this happened about 20hours, ago. > If so, you may be caught by unforgiving boinc > downloads -- no re-trys. It was again about this firewall issue, but I gave it try without a firewall enabled. It didnt work. > Beyond that, I'm out of ideas, Stefan. Sorry. me too. I don´t understand what its problem comes from. Can´t I just download those files manually and copy them right into the directory? This should work -hopefully. Bye! Stefan |

You could try to create the file account_climateprediction.net.xml from an existing one of a different project with [master_url]http://climateprediction.net/[/master_url] [authenticator](yours)[/authenticator] [project_name]climateprediction.net[/project_name] Not too much project specific in it, just two tags [color_scheme]Tahiti Sunset[/color_scheme] [name_old](your account here I think)[/name_old] and then restart the client. Einen Versuch ist's wert, viel Glueck :-) |

So there cannot be a firewall error. It´s also clear, that I can use the .xml generated by the Win - Client (can I use this?). > [master_url]http://climateprediction.net/[/master_url] > [authenticator](yours)[/authenticator] > [project_name]climateprediction.net[/project_name] > > > Not too much project specific in it, just two tags > > [color_scheme]Tahiti Sunset[/color_scheme] > [name_old](your account here I think)[/name_old] > > and then restart the client. Hi, I had the same problem and I solved it by removing the last slash of URL when entering the URL of the project : http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc then after I entered the Account ID mentionned in the email from climateprediction.net : "You should have already registered with the project and received an account key by email. Paste the account key here: and it worked |

It was mentioned a few months ago when people were having a similar (same?) problem, that they should be careful if using "copy and paste" for the URL and account key, to not accidently swipe past the last character, as they would end up with an extra, hidden, character in the string. Removal of the "last slash" has also been mentioned before, with successful results. In the email I received, my project URL is: http://climateprediction.net Have you tried this? edit: Sorry, I see you had this URL in your original post. How about port 80. Is BOINC allowed access to it? Les |
