Is there anybody out there? Regarding the question....the weathers fine here, over Morecambe Bay...anything else? You asked for it... Although he was a qualified meteorologist, Hopkins ran up a terrible record of forecasting for the TV news program. He became something of a local joke when a newspaper began keeping a record of his predictions and showed that he'd been wrong almost three hundred times in a single year. That kind of notoriety was enough to get him fired. He moved to another part of the country and applied for a similar job. One blank on the job application called for the reason for leaving his previous position. Hopkins wrote, "The climate didn't agree with me." Remember...Always look on the bright side of life. |

Lol this is a nice story =). Well here in germany its pretty cold out there but its the most beautiful sunny weather I ever saw, or better said, I ever experienced that concious. I can't show any pics but I am often watching the following web cam just for fun because I like the daily changed of the weather at Mt. St. Helens =). Sometimes it looks like out of books, but go and convince yourself ;). http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/volcanocams/msh/ |

Last Saturday the temperature in Melbourne was 32 degrees celsius. It was a bit hot for my computer too. I had been telling a friend about a washing machine that had caught fire and burnt some one's flat down. When I got home and walked into the "office" there was a faint but distinct smell of burning coming from my month old computer. I'd been running two climate models on my Pentium4 3.0 ghz for several days non-stop at 100% cpu utilization. I switched it off for a few hours, the weather is cooler now and the computer is fine. |

There have been quite a few people on the CPDN boards who have started off their complaints of problems running the project by saying that there can't be anything wrong with their PC because they 'had only just bought it'! At least modern P4 are designed to throttle back if overheating, but the peoiple who knock the machines together haven't always tested them running CPDN double threaded 24/7 even in temperate conditions. At 32C I'm not sure even a bigger case and extra fans will be enough. There's advice on basic maintenance in the hardware forum, but I doubt that a bit of dust and fluff will be your problem (though an obvious fire risk!). In York it's about 4 degrees today - not bad for 54 degrees latitude north. |

Might I suggest this LINK. It has been a god send keeping my HT CPU's from overheating. I do a manual over ride and have the fans cranking at 100%. The increased power consumption is negligable. |

In Newcastle upon Tyne, which is where I grew up, the most common cause of domestic fires is when men (yes) return from the pub at 11.30pm, having drunk a lot but eaten nothing. They fancy a plate of chips, get a packet out of the freezer, and put them in the chip pan. In the UK this usually means oil 2 inches (5cm) deep. While the chips are cooking they lie down on the sofa, turn on the telly and of course fall asleep. They are woken either by the smoke alarm, by the smell of smoke, or by the fire brigade. Apparently the local council is giving free electric chip pans, which have a thermostat, to certain families. This will save the community lots of money. __________________________________________________ |
