Running on Windows ME. Completed first trickle. Boinc icon in system tray indicated message. Right clicked icon to show message. Icon disappeared from tray. Attempts to relaunch Boinc have failed. It appears the icon moves to the systray, but immediately disappears and the application does not start. |

When you open Windows Task Manager (press CTL/ALT/DEL) do you see any of these processes listed - boinc_gui or ones beginning hadsm3? |

I ran scan disk an it found four boinc files with portions stored in invalid areas. I asked Compac about the sudden lack of resources, and they offered to correct the problem. When they finished, nothing worked. I had to reinstall WindowsME. I'm still working on that. |

>I had to reinstall WindowsME. I'm still working on that. > OK. When you have finished you should reinstall BOINC (download from the site) to the original location. It's just possible that you will be able to restart the old model if you are very lucky. If you are unlucky, BOINC will still not work in which case you will need to do a full uninstall, reboot and install of BOINC. Save the account*.xml files first and replace them after reinstallation before re-running BOINC. That should save the hassle of re-registering. Ask again if you still have no joy. If your machine has less than an 800MHz processor, or limited memory, it is possible that climate forecasting is just proving too much for it. |

Still having problems getting windows reinstalled. I have a 1.4gig processor with 256 megs of memory. When I get the install done, will try downloading BOINC, maybe next week. If I am very unlucky, and have to do the uninstall, and reregister bit, I will only have lost one trickle. |

If I am very unlucky, and have to > do the uninstall, and reregister bit, I will only have lost one trickle. > Gave up on trying to make BOINC work. When I had the original problem, apparently Norton Internet Security files were also corrupted. The firewall won't permit me to access climateprediction.net. Tried to unstall Norton. Windows says it has apparently been uninstalled. Asked Norton to uninstall, and it says it can not because a file is missing. Can't reinstall Norton since it says the old files are still there. Gave it up. Installed Windows XP, but haven't downloaded BOINC yet. On my other computer with Windows XP, I had completed 36 trickles when I received a message I needed to reset the work unit since the work unit was being completed, but no results were being returned. Did that. Now I'm back to step one of phase one. 129624 timesteps down the drain. Thank you for all your help. Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year! |
