i have no idea what im doing!!! i cant seem to get the little globey thingie going-does it come up by itself or do i hav 2 do sumthing? and i dont even know what boinc is(i dont understand the explanations)... or what to do with it. could sum 1 please walk me through the steps to getting it up and running properly?!? and i would like to know what to do with it once i get it working please. it would b great if you could use language that i understand lol. |

Don't panic. You should see a little round blue disk in Task Manager at the bottom of the screen with a yellow B in it. That is BOINC and you can open it by double clicking on it or right clicking and choosing 'show'. The messages tab does what it says and you should see a line saying something like 'resuming computation for result ...... hadsm3.ver 4.04'. The work tab should show your CPDN workunit and how far you have got - not very far yet, but if you leave your computer on all the time it will probably finish in less than three weeks. If you right click on that line you will be able to open the graphics and look at your world (press H for a list of options) but don't keep it open when you are not looking at it, as it wastes computing power. If you find that things are not as I describe then say so and we will try to help. As for what BOINC is all about, you will find out more than you want to know on <a href="http://homepage.mac.com/pauldbuck/site-boinc/oman-app/app-over.html">Paul Buck's site</a>. It is just a way of running projects like Climate Prediction - you can even run lots of different ones if you like but don't get too ambitious yet! |
