I'm getting a new computer.

Currently I'm running this program on a Dell XPS T00R with a Pentium III 800mhz processor. It has 128 RAM and I think only 20 gig... I run Windows 98.

The new computer is going to be a Dell 9200 with 512 RAM. It is going to have a Pentium IV that is 3 gigahertz. It has a 160 gig hard drive. It comes with a 942 printer that is a fax, copier and a printer... It will run Windows XP home version. It's almost like going from a stone tablet to a mega machine for me...

My question is, will I be able to transfer the project I'm currently crunching on my old machine to the new one? Both have ethernet cards where I can transfer files one to another by making the old C drive able to share with the new machine... So, will this work?

Yes and no. You can do it and things will work. However most likely you will lose the currently queued work.

Copy the entire BOINC directory and it's subfiles. Then install to the place you put the files on the new computer. And cross your fingers.

OK, will do... I think I'm going to be doing a lot of finger crossing as I make this transition. I've never done this before. It makes me nervous. It's long past due that I get a new system. Mine current one is dying a slow agonizing death.

Thanks!

It depends upon where in that city you live. If near the waterfront, you may be well advised to get a wet-suit and boat. (Or move to a less exposed and less expensive area of California. ... Ha! [As if such exists.]) In any event, I think that Jack London would not recognize the waterfront a mere few decades hence.

Such a pity.

I'm off of Lake Merritt which is really an estuary. I''m also on a nice steep hill so perhaps I will be on an island? ;-)
