W2K, all patched. Tried to upgrade to 4.13- Suspended and stopped existing run (4.09) d/l'd 4.13 and installed. now it won't run, even after reboot. Only 30%done on a slow 900mhz but I don't want to lose it :) Tried to follow http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=1015 but no joy... |

Not quite clear what you mean by won't run; it does not start, or it starts and crashes (maybe without you seeing it)? Is there any information in your project folder's stderr.txt file? |

Is there any information in your > project folder's stderr.txt file? > Sorry, Doesn't seem to start- Nothing in task manager or event logs and stderr.txt file is 0 bytes. Stdout.txt looks like it might be trying- the line here about :Host ID not assigned yet" might be a clue bue me being a doark I'm not sure how to interpret that. I'm thinking this is obvious but... 12-14 22:28:57 [---] Starting BOINC client version 4.13 for windows_intelx86 2004-12-14 22:28:57 [http:///] Project prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults 2004-12-14 22:28:57 [climateprediction.net] Project prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults 2004-12-14 22:28:57 [---] Version Change Detected (4.09 -> 4.13); running CPU benchmarks 2004-12-14 22:28:57 [http:///] Host ID not assigned yet 2004-12-14 22:28:57 [climateprediction.net] Host ID is 50399 2004-12-14 22:28:57 [---] General prefs: from climateprediction.net (last modified 2004-10-01 15:53:07) 2004-12-14 22:28:57 [---] General prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults |

I've just been trying to get a failed wu restarted. Trouble is, I'm running an HT machine, and I needed to replace one set of files but not the other. In the process I got lots of the confusing messages that people report. One of them, several times, was: 'Host ID not assigned yet'. I get the feeling that it's because a file is missing or corrupted. (In my case, edited). And the ID WAS there. Your ID is on the 3rd line of the 'sched_request.xml' file. When I did a complete replacement of the entire BOINC folder(s), everything worked, but with the wrong file set. When I carefully replaced certain files to get the correct set, it stopped working. There was nothing at all in the 'work' tab of BOINC. Also, several times it somehow got hold of the data / names of the newly started wu, even though I had removed all trace of the wu name. I think it may be getting it from data hidden in one of the 'hadsm3data_4.04_windows_intelx86.zip' files. So I've given up. Sigh. Did you make a COMPLETE backup of the BOINC folder(s) before upgrading? If so, a complete restore will almost certainly fix things. Les |

Is it not running the core client at all or is it running but not running the project and if so what do you get in the message window? |

To reactivate an old wu you either need to restore client_state.xml from a backup (losing all record of any wus downloaded since the backup) or merge the sections relevant to the wu you want to restore from a backup client_state.xml into the current one (but backup the current one first and only go down that route if you're absolutely sure what you're doing).
