After updating to ZoneAlarmPro version 5.5.062.004, I must now exit ZoneAlarm(ZA) before BOINC will start using any CPU time. Everything loads fine, no work is done. Anyone notice similar behaviour? |

I'm running that build of ZoneAlarm with no problems Do you have your prefs set to always work or only when inactive? |

ZoneAlarm needs to be configured to allow applications to access the Internet. I think ZA settings remain if you do an upgrade (as opposed to a clean install). Open ZA and go to Program Control (Programs). See if BOINC is in the program list. I have two entries: - BOINC Core Client Command Line Interface (all 4 controls checked) - boinc_gui (all 4 controls checked) If you do not see them, you'll have to add them manually (right click on the pgm list; Add program...). The first is boinc_cli.exe, the second boinc_gui.exe After adding them, set all 4 contols to Allow (left-click on the controls). |

>I'm running that build of ZoneAlarm with no problems Likewise, no problems on my laptop with this build of ZA and BOINC 4.13 If you install ZA as an upgrade, it will pick up your old security settings. |

Thank you for your ideas & suggestions. The problem *may* have gone away, or only occurs at re-boot. Last night a simulation finished, uploaded successfully, and another simulation started. My preferences run BOINC all the time; I've always had all 4 controls checked for both the command line interface and the gui. I reboot as infrequent as possible. I'll let you know if the problem returns. Cheers! |

>The problem *may* have gone away, or only occurs at re-boot. I think this is it. There are some times at boot when ZA is not completely up and running. If BOINC tries to communicate during one of these intervals it may be blocked or cut off mid transmission. Either one could cause problems. I personally have not seen any problems, I use ZApro. BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |

I too am seeing this with ZA Free version, and with other processor intensive tasks. I thought my machine had become unstable and tried running Prime95 and it would open but the processor activity would stay at minimal. Usually takes me 3-5 reboots and long waits to get it going. I was thinking of uninstalling the latest update to see if things started behaving. |
