My first dumb question: I just switched SETI to BOINC a few days ago, then signed up for ClimatePrediction today. I got the project attached all right, but can't figure out how to download 1st work unit?????? (I wish BOINC were a bit more user-friendly!) I'd appreciate any help. Lessa |

If you attached sucessfully to CPDN BOINC will download a workunit automatically. You can try to hurry the process by selecting CPDN on the projects page and hitting the update now link. Looking at your computer page your computer may not have enough memory to actually get a workunit. I think you must have at least 512mb of memory. BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |

The tech_FAQ says 128Meg, but I think I saw somewhere that 256Meg was prefered. And seeing as you are coming here from SETI, don't be shocked when you see that a workunit,(wu), will take you 600-700 are so hours to complete. Maybe a lot longer if CP isn't given much of a cpu share. This is talked about in the FAQ. Les |

I think you must have at least 512mb of memory. > Just to clarify, the requirements are 600 MB of disk space and 128 MB of RAM. Edit (we posted at the same time)- I agree with Les that 128MB is a bit tight. CPDN needs a little over 50 for itself, and Windows XP at least as much, with BOINC a chunk of the remainder. That dosn't leave any spare for anyting else that you might want to do with a PC. |
