hi

this is difference:

self-compiled 64bit boinc on an athlon64 3200+:
Benchmark results:
2005-01-04 16:28:21 [---] Number of CPUs: 1
2005-01-04 16:28:21 [---] 1479 double precision MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU
2005-01-04 16:28:21 [---] 3854 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU
2005-01-04 16:28:21 [---] Finished CPU benchmarks

precompiled package boinc_4.13_i686-pc-linux-gnu:
Benchmark results:
2005-01-14 17:42:24 [---] Number of CPUs: 1
2005-01-14 17:42:24 [---] 1068 double precision MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU
2005-01-14 17:42:24 [---] 2702 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU
2005-01-14 17:42:24 [---] Finished CPU benchmarks

so the 32bit runs only at 72% at double precision and only at 70% at integer of the speed of a 64bit.
system: athlon64 3200+, gentoo, 32bit emulation

maybe a 64bit version would speed up calculations and maybe its worth a thought;-)

It's worth a thought, and has been mentioned/suggested before. But the IT personnel/resources have been given priorities other than that. Hopefully it will come at some time.
