Everytime I do a system reboot and restart Boinc the scheduler sends me a new wu and starts such. This last time it even gave my machine a new ID number???
For an HT enabled machine I now have been assigned 8 work units instead of 2. Is there a fix for this? I may never be able to finish a model here if this continues.Why doesn\'t the scheduler just restart my old wu when I log back in?

Do you have the messages generated when it starts up? You'll find them in the stderr.txt and stdout.txt files in the boinc directory.

Yes I have those logs but I also show old stderr and old stdout

If you copy and paste the messages from the filoes that relate to the startup and switch to new models somebody should be able to give some indication of what's happening.

You may be on to something there, Admiral_Hawkes.

jrenkar's problem may lie in the reboot sequence. I had a few aborted models in the alpha trial due to corrupt XML files.

BOINC runs 2 programs for each CPDN model. hadsum3_4.02_windows_intelx86 is the one that actually runs the model. hadsm3_4.02_windows_intelx86 sits between hadsum3 and BOINC (and runs the visualisation).

I suspect that windows doesn't take much account of this program hierarchy on shutting down, so the best advice I can offer is to exit from BOINC before shutting down to avoid any problems.

For my feeling the most strange thing in the logs is that BOINC always seems to start with no host ID and project name and information.

This normaly is written in client_state.xml and BOINC should get it from there on restart. A problem with Windows shutting down the apps in wrong sequenz should not matter at this point.

Do you change the write to disk interval in the prefs? Or do you see something strange in the BOINC folder or the client_state.xml? But I don't really know what to look for.

I think you should try to remove and total new install BOINC and to set the number of max CPU's in the prefs to 1. I use a computer with XP pro similar like yours and there is no problem. So I would believe in a problem of the install or the Operatings system.
