WinXP Freezes w/ CPDN

Hi, I am running an AMD 2700+ XP system not overclocked. I notice it freezes everytime I run CPDN. I've tested it w/ Prime95 and MemoryTester (or something) and it works fine. Other BOINC projects such as P@H and Seti seem to work fine. I also run Folding@home and no errors either. My CPU is running at ~ 42C. <a href="http://www.pcpitstop.com/techexpress.asp?id=ACGFMWANNHUS7EA7">This is a site of my PC.</a> I am running 4.13. You have two computers, so I'm going to be heretical and suggest that you run ONLY CP on one, and the other dc projects on the other computer. If you stop the other projects on the problem computer, and run CP there, allocating 100% of time to it, it will also be a good test of whether CP will even run on it. And then choose which one to use for CP. Les |

Should I run it on the one good computer then? How about totally removing BOINC and installing it again. If you want to try and continue with a current WU, BACKUP the ENTIRE BOINC folder/subfolders first, then you can copy back the CP bits after: some files in BOINC, all of climateprediction.net, all of 'slots'. That is, if the latest one hasn't crashed completely. It would be simpler, I feel, to try CP on it's own on the bad computer first. If it still fails, then re-install BOINC, and try CP on it's own. If this fails to work, then just run other dc projects on it. Does the Intel machine run ALL dc projects together OK? There was a LOT of discussion in the php forum about Intel verses AMD powered computers. The fortran compiler used for CP is an Intel version, and the optimisation seems to put AMD processors at a disadvantage. Perhaps you have a bad case of the problem. And it is a little odd that your processor is described as an AMD 'Proswssor'. But I can't think what this would have to do with it. And the problem with compiling an AMD version is the cost of a second compiler and programmers time. It all comes down to Cold Hard Cash. Still, you have a few options yet. I am running 4.16 freshly installed w/ CPDN and it seems to be working ok right now. (It's been running for 10 min.) Yes, the Intel one runs CPDN and Seti. It works just fine. The 'AMD Proswssor' is what I tried when I was reprogramming my CPU string. I accidently did a typo there but it should be fixed now to AMD Athlon XP 2700+. Yes, this AMD is a bit slower than the Intel. (I usually run Folding@home.) I will try CPDN for a while as stability testing and tell you how it turns out. As for the dreaded -5 exit code: this is, apparently, sometimes caused by negative pressure in one of the cells.
