Hi, I am running an AMD 2700+ XP system not overclocked. I notice it freezes everytime I run CPDN. I've tested it w/ Prime95 and MemoryTester (or something) and it works fine. Other BOINC projects such as P@H and Seti seem to work fine. I also run Folding@home and no errors either. My CPU is running at ~ 42C. <a href="http://www.pcpitstop.com/techexpress.asp?id=ACGFMWANNHUS7EA7">This is a site of my PC.</a> I am running 4.13. Please help! <a href="http://www.spreadfirefox.com/?q=affiliates&id=11460&t=79"><img src="http://sfx-images.mozilla.org/affiliates/Buttons/88x31/get.gif"></img></a> |

Hi, Your C-drive is flagged as a "serious problem" in your linked display. Do you have sufficient space to run CPDN? (~700 Meg, plus ~330 Meg for each CPDN completed run.) "We have met the enemy and he is us." -- Pogo Greetings from coastal Washington state, the scenic US Pacific Northwest. |

I deleted some files and have over 8000 MB available. :) Here is a very detailed report: <a href="http://home.comcast.net/~lm2002/computer.htm">Report</a> <a href="http://www.spreadfirefox.com/?q=affiliates&id=11460&t=79"><img src="http://sfx-images.mozilla.org/affiliates/Buttons/88x31/get.gif"></img></a> |

You have two computers, so I'm going to be heretical and suggest that you run ONLY CP on one, and the other dc projects on the other computer. If you stop the other projects on the problem computer, and run CP there, allocating 100% of time to it, it will also be a good test of whether CP will even run on it. And then choose which one to use for CP. Les |

Should I run it on the one good computer then? How about totally removing BOINC and installing it again. Could that fix something? <a href="http://www.spreadfirefox.com/?q=affiliates&id=11460&t=79"><img src="http://sfx-images.mozilla.org/affiliates/Buttons/88x31/get.gif"></img></a> |

quote: ...totally removing BOINC and installing it again. Could that fix something? It has been known to fix things for some people. At least, with previous versions of BOINC. If you want to try and continue with a current WU, BACKUP the ENTIRE BOINC folder/subfolders first, then you can copy back the CP bits after: some files in BOINC, all of climateprediction.net, all of 'slots'. That is, if the latest one hasn't crashed completely. It would be simpler, I feel, to try CP on it's own on the bad computer first. If it still fails, then re-install BOINC, and try CP on it's own. If this fails to work, then just run other dc projects on it. Does the Intel machine run ALL dc projects together OK? There was a LOT of discussion in the php forum about Intel verses AMD powered computers. The fortran compiler used for CP is an Intel version, and the optimisation seems to put AMD processors at a disadvantage. Perhaps you have a bad case of the problem. And it is a little odd that your processor is described as an AMD 'Proswssor'. But I can't think what this would have to do with it. And the problem with compiling an AMD version is the cost of a second compiler and programmers time. It all comes down to Cold Hard Cash. Still, you have a few options yet. Let us know how you get on. Les |

I am running 4.16 freshly installed w/ CPDN and it seems to be working ok right now. (It's been running for 10 min.) Yes, the Intel one runs CPDN and Seti. It works just fine. The 'AMD Proswssor' is what I tried when I was reprogramming my CPU string. I accidently did a typo there but it should be fixed now to AMD Athlon XP 2700+. Yes, this AMD is a bit slower than the Intel. (I usually run Folding@home.) I will try CPDN for a while as stability testing and tell you how it turns out. Thanks. -irdepesca572 Edit: Also I got this error: --- - 2005-01-23 12:27:17 - Starting BOINC client version 4.16 for windows_intelx86 climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 12:27:17 - Project prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 12:27:17 - Host ID is 88633 --- - 2005-01-23 12:27:17 - General prefs: from unknown project http://www.climateprediction.net/ (last modified 2004-11-22 15:00:26) --- - 2005-01-23 12:27:17 - General prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 12:27:19 - Resuming computation for result 2xcr_000157916_1 using hadsm3 version 4.04 climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:20:09 - Unrecoverable error for result 2xcr_000157916_1 ( - exit code -5 (0xfffffffb)) climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:20:09 - Deferring communication with project for 1 minutes and 0 seconds climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:20:09 - Computation for result 2xcr_000157916 finished climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:20:11 - Started upload of 2xcr_000157916_1_1.zip climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:20:11 - Started upload of 2xcr_000157916_1_2.zip climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:20:17 - Finished upload of 2xcr_000157916_1_1.zip climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:20:17 - Throughput 257 bytes/sec climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:20:17 - Finished upload of 2xcr_000157916_1_2.zip climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:20:17 - Throughput 7266 bytes/sec climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:20:17 - Started upload of 2xcr_000157916_1_3.zip climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:20:17 - Started upload of 2xcr_000157916_1_4.zip climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:20:23 - Finished upload of 2xcr_000157916_1_3.zip climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:20:23 - Throughput 259 bytes/sec climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:20:23 - Finished upload of 2xcr_000157916_1_4.zip climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:20:23 - Throughput 259 bytes/sec climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:20:23 - Started upload of 2xcr_000157916_1_5.zip climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:20:29 - Finished upload of 2xcr_000157916_1_5.zip climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:20:29 - Throughput 7088 bytes/sec --- - 2005-01-23 13:21:10 - Insufficient work; requesting more climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:21:10 - Requesting 17275 seconds of work climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:21:10 - Sending request to scheduler: http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc_cgi/cgi climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:21:13 - Scheduler RPC to http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc_cgi/cgi succeeded climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:21:14 - Project prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:21:14 - Started download of 3222_100164072.zip climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:21:17 - Finished download of 3222_100164072.zip climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:21:17 - Throughput 3488 bytes/sec climateprediction.net - 2005-01-23 13:21:17 - Starting result 3222_100164072_1 using hadsm3 version 4.04 <a href="http://www.spreadfirefox.com/?q=affiliates&id=11460&t=79"><img src="http://sfx-images.mozilla.org/affiliates/Buttons/88x31/get.gif"></img></a> |

quote: reprogramming my CPU string I didn't know you could do that! Arrrrrgh!! Brain overload! I'm glad that you're in business at last. Now you can start crunching everything in sight. As for the dreaded -5 exit code: this is, apparently, sometimes caused by negative pressure in one of the cells. Read this thread for a short message about it from Carl. http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=272 It also appears to be a general purpose error code. Les |

IT's running right now ok. > Yeah, it did freeze again :( I don't know what to do. I guess I'll just run other distributed computing projects until it's stable on my system at a later date. I'll try it w/ 4.19, but I expect the same result. -irdepesca572 <a href="http://www.spreadfirefox.com/?q=affiliates&id=11460&t=79"><img src="http://sfx-images.mozilla.org/affiliates/Buttons/88x31/get.gif"></img></a> |
