Hi I want to set maximum cpu usage of BOINC (climate prediction project) to prevent overheat. I'm using the Thread Master, so I must enter the process name when I set it up. The process is called "hadsm3um_4.04_windows_intelx86.exe" and I fear that when my comp. will finish the current project, the new project will have different process name and I'll have to reconfigure Tread Master. Do you know whether new projects will have different process names? Do you know any other (more user-friendly) software like the Thread Master? Yea, and by the way: 60 C temperature on cpu (athlon 1800+) is ok? (temperature inside the comp. case is 40) |

The 60C is very high. It should be around 40 or so. Ever frozen? <a href="http://www.spreadfirefox.com/?q=affiliates&id=11460&t=79"><img src="http://sfx-images.mozilla.org/affiliates/Buttons/88x31/get.gif"></img></a> |

The climateprediction app's name may change in the future (4.04 may become 4.05, etc), but not because a new model is downloaded and running. You're safe until they upgrade the CPDN part of the client, and even then, that might be an optional upgrade for you. There are still those running 4.03 even though 4.04 has been out for more than a few months. > Yea, and by the way: 60 C temperature on cpu (athlon 1800+) is ok? (temperature > inside the comp. case is 40) It depends. There are some motherboard sensors that read higher than others for the same CPU, CPU speed, and voltage. I had a Gigabyte board that would run CPDN at max load in the upper 50s C. CPDN on the same CPU at the same speed and voltage was in the upper 40s C on an ASUS board. What motherboard type do you have? |

I have a Gigabyte motherboard (don't know the exact model). right now the cpu constant load is 70%, the cpu temperature is 57, and the system temp is 40. i shut down the system fan because it made a lot of noise, and after all it's winter and it's 18 degrees in the room. anyway, at summer the system temp is 40 with the fan on, and cpu temp is usually 20 degrees higher. the cpu fan is a basic one, but it came with thermal glue on it... the previous fan used to make the same temperatures. am i ill, doctor? |

It's possible careful cable routing could help airflow. An pretty good article on computer cooling without a lot of noise can be found at: http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/computercooling.html |
