Is there a way of running CP and SETI simultaneously ( as opposed them working in turns e.g. 60 min each ) and if not, why assign only a percentage of CPU to each and not all to each one so that they use all of it in each turn. What resources does the "Resource Share" refer to? Thanks |

>What resources does the "Resource Share" refer to? If you assign CP with 75% and SETI with 25% then CP should run for 3 hours then SETI for 1 hour. If you have a hyperthreaded processor there is some benefit to running 2 or more processes at the same time. BOINC uses this allowing each virtual processor to run a project. Without Hyperthreading there is no throughput advantage to running 2 projects at the same time. It runs slower because cached memory shared over two processes would result in a lower cache hit rate than if just one project is running.
