I don't have very much space on C: but I have plenty of space on D: and E:. How can I get BOINC to use these other drives?

And, for future growth, how can I use a network drive?

Best thing would be to reinstall BOINC on one of your other drives.

Copy everything across to where you want it to go, unistall BOINC from the C drive (and delete the directory it was installed in to recover the space), reinstall BOINC at the new location and it should automatically pick up where it left off.

It's probably not a good idea to use a network drive as CPDN does a lot of disk writes which can be cached locally but will hit your network hard. But there's no reason why you can't move completed results to a separate drive (I do, and others archive them to CDs).

I know this is completely off-topic, but how do you catch a result on your system AFTER it's been uploaded to the project's site? I thought that completed WUs and their results were deleted from the local system after processing had completed and the result data sent back to the project.

In this case, how can you back it up? Do you have to be sitting at the machine when the WU completes and wrestle the result file(s) from the project's directory before they're tossed into the recycle bin in the sky?

Boinc will not delete the files when a run has ended...unless there are significant restrictions in your preferences on the disk space that boinc can use. Then it *should* delete enough files to make keep you going with your disk restrictions.

The files are compressed at the end of the run, and select files are uploaded to the server. They contain a good amount of information that the project investigators might like to look at. However, if they find a run particularly interesting, they may e-mail you and ask to upload additional files. That is why people suggest it is a good idea to backup or archive these files. I've completed about 30 runs in classic CPDN and boinc, and only been asked to upload more files from one of those runs.

The archived files are found in a folder in your BOINC/Projects/climateprediction.net directory. It is good practice to move them to another folder or CD/DVD because that speeds backup of the main BOINC folder. People with any interest in climate may want to compare their different runs at a later stage, and for this there is a new version of of the advanced visualisation program in preparation, as well as an add-on called CPView.

Interesting... No wonder my drives are filling up at a rate of knots... Especially the one on the 1900+. This is on 24/7 crunching for three different projects. (S@H, CPDN &amp; LHC). Have to look into how to clean that stuff off of there.
