I have a persisting problem in that about 2 weeks or so ago uploads no longer communicate - I get the messages 'master file fetch failed', scheduler to RPC failed', and communication is deferred for some period. I still receive downloads, oddly.


I am running MacAfee Personal Firewall.

I would appreciate any help.

You can try:
Open Boinc
Select "project"
Right-click
Select "update"
If communication fails, check your firewall settings to see if BOINC is allowed.
(Sorry, I don't know about McAfee's PF.)
You say you receive downloads. Can you give us more info?

Thanks for your reply - it has allowed me to focus where the problem seems to lay - Now I have uploaded everything and nothing downloads - I may have been mistaken when I told you earlier that the download was working.

What I did: I had been requesting retry via the project name for some time. So, I turned the McAfee firewall off, and watched all traffic, nothing obvious since boinc is allowed all traffic. This didn't change anything, so I 'messed around' (tech term ;-) ) with internet option settings just to see if any weird magic might happen, and it did. I opened up Cyberpatrol to be a little less parental. I set pop-ups to 'unblocked', and custom set security to 'Low'. Then everything got busy and uploads went very nicely.

However, I now have all of these 'free' (there's something you don't get everyday) cycles, and nothing downloaded from the servers. Does the following set of message entries indicate anything obvious to you? (besides the possibility I may not know what I'm doing, that is!)
