One of the boxes I run CPDN on is my BDC. It is a very slow PII box but up to now this was not a problem for me. It looks like I will need to do a powerleap upgrade. No chnge in OS, nor motherboard. Will a CPU only change cause the current model to reset or will it just continue along?

TIA

Bob

It should be fine; BOINC seems to cope well enough with changes in CPU, even when going from Athlon to Pentium.

Do a backup of the whole directory. Delete BOINC from the startup folder so that it does not run when you reboot after the upgrade. After the upgrade, make sure that everything is running well and run a test program at least overnight - Prime95 in test mode is a popular one. Then launch BOINC and watch the messages window, and make sure that all is well. Only then add a new shortcut to BOINC to the startup directory.

Hardware upgrades should be troublefree, but experience suggests that you should not rely on that.

This really does not answer the queastion. What I want to know does CPDN demand a homogenius run. The CPU will be Intel PII to Intel PIV.

Not in my experience - see my first paragraph. A change in OS is a different matter.

It went alright when I upgraded (downgraded?;) from Win98se to WinME, but Win9x/ME to Win2K/XP might be another matter.
