I have a hardware problem with my computer. It crashes(freezes) occasionally, and I have to restart it. It seems now that I have lost some work being done, because the measured progress has gone down to just below one percent. Is there anything to be done in the progran setup to avoid loosing data?

Hardware crashes of this type will often create problems for distributed computing apps. My best advice is to find out what hardware component is causing the problems and fix/replace it. It's possible heat could also be a problem depending on your system cooling.
