UPDATE:

I followed the advice from Crandles, and got it working with 4.19 :) Thanks again for the quick help.

----

Hello!

I'm new to this system, just started on monday. I downloaded the software (4.13) and started crunching. The next day i see there is 4.19 out, so i waited until my very first trickle (yey :)) and then decided to update.

What i did:

1. back up the boinc folder.
2. uninstall 4.13
3. install 4.19
4. copy the projects folder from the 4.13 boinc to the new 4.19 folder

Now, i assumed that this procedure would allow me to continue the project from where i was, but it seems that the software downloaded my project again, issued a different "name" of random characters to the folders and xml files under /project and started the whole thing from 0 %.

Could anyone please give (or point to another place describing) the exact phases of how to migrate without losing the previous work? I still have the backup folder, so i hope all is not yet lost.

Thank you in advance, it's great to be doing something useful with my extra mips :)

There's discussion about this in this thread. I understand you could copy the files back and then reinstall 4.19.
On the other hand, if you had just sent one trickle, and your new model is working all right, it might not be worth the trouble.
In fact there was no need to uninstall. The safe method is to suspend then stop the model, then run the install file and let it use the defaults (or select the directory you installed the previous version to). It will then copy itself over the old version and carry on from there.

With luck, had you avoided your steps 2 and 4 things would have worked.

So I would suggest:
Stop BOINC and delete the folder.
Copy the backup back to its normal place (still keeping the backup).
Install 4.19

Hope this works for you.

Perhaps someone else can give you the steps to recover your previos model. But in the future, you just need to

Suspend, then Exit the client/BONIC GUI
Run the install on the new version, it will ask you again if you want to start the application at startup and whether you want it as the default screensaver. I typically say no, and manually put it in the startup folder if it's not there.
It will start crunching on the work unit at the point it left off.

Uninstalling removes the model/directory structure etc. as you found out.
