I am using a G5/2Ghz/1.5Gb Memory/ OS 10.3.7. I installed BOINC as per instructions but cannot find the client as it is supposed to upload/download automatically when a web connection is needed. Also I cannot find the 'allow trickle' preference. I seem to have some data stored but nothing like the amount SETI is chucking out. SETI is processing 4 units every 24 hours! |

This is not SETI, this is serious computation. CPDN 'chucks out' a model every three weeks or so, and up to 2 trickles a day on a fast machine. There are 72 trickles, with a 'phase change' at 24 and 48 trickles, when a LOT of disk activity occurs. A trickle is only a few lines of data to let the server know the model is still being worked on, and where it is up to. I'm not a Mac person, so I can't help with where files are, but in Windows, the 'allow trickle' is an option, not a preference. It is 'Disable BOINC Network Access' in the GUI, which is something not on a Mac from what I've read. You'll need to wait for a Mac person to tell you the string to type to do this. edit Oops! I've just read the next message up from this. 'Trickle Preference' must be unique to Macs. I don't remember this when I set up Windows BOINC, although it was version 4.05 back then. And I don't intend to upgrade if I can help it, as it works fine. (WU is Work Unit, a bit shorter than model, which I really should use). Les |

> I installed BOINC as per instructions but cannot find the client I am not sure I understood your question, but in the Terminal if you type locate boinc_4 you will get the paths of all the files containing the word "boinc_4", which should boil down to the executable client. Then change to its directory, in my case cd /Users/matthieu/boinc/ and launch the client ./boinc (then press the tab key for autocompletion) This will run the client in the Terminal window - leave it open to see the progress.
