Had a look at my simulation and saw <a href="http://home.student.uu.se/dana3949/temporary/coldgulf.jpg">this</a>. Anyone know if this might be what it looks like? It's a known problem that happens when the temperature goes off the top of the scale. It's a bit easier to identify when you're displaying cell rather smoothed graphics.
