I am on WinXP-SP2, and I'm having troubles with my systray - startup applications sometimes not making it into the systray. BOINC is in there most of the time, but sometimes it also isn't. In this case I cannot suspend CP if I need to reboot.

Question: in this situation, what is the safest way to reboot?
- Just reboot?
- Kill BOINC and the core applications, and if so, in what order?
- Does a backup (while BOINC & CP is running) help a recovery in case something goes wrong?

I run CP 75% & S@H 25%, so I could just wait until S@H kicks in, but sometimes I just have to reboot right away.

If it's not just a case of XP auto hiding the icon you could try using BoincView to control your BOINC client.

Thanks for the link; I will try that when it happens next time. (No, it's not the auto-hide; it is the old WinXP problem where startup applications are not making it into the systray.)

Instead of rebooting you can usually just logoff and logon and your systray icons will all show up... usually ;-)
