Hallo, I am trying to run climateprediction on BOINC 4.19 on a Windows XP Pro SP2 machine. I also have PrevX Prof. 2005 installed ( www.prevx.com ) The problem is that whenever climateprediction runs it hangs PrevX and my whole machine. But I don't get this problem with seti@home or einstein@home. Has anyone else had this experience and could offer some help ? Thanks! |

Hi doh_boy. Welcome to the forum and the project. As I understand it, all the other projects get a data list, and then compare each item against another list, looking for a match. This only takes a few hours for each set. CPDN starts with a list of parameters and applies complex maths to them for several weeks, resulting in about 700M of data. This is then zipped, and 7M in 5 files is then sent back for the scientists to study. A further 330M of zipped files remain on your computer in case the scientists find your results interesting and want to study it in more detail. So there is no comparison between CPDN and the other dc projects. There is/was a user, Xiansheng, having a similar problem to you. You could start by reading this thread to see if any of the advice helps. If not, repost, and we'll take it from there. Also, there are 2 text files, (to start with, 4 later), in the BOINC folder which contain the messages you get: stdout for the messages you see in the gui under Messages, and stderr for the error messages. When these get re-written, (when you re-start BOINC), the .txt is renamed to .old, and new .txt files created. If you look in these, (just double-click), you may get a clue. Les |
