As usual for a BONIC project no schedulars are responding, and I can't seem to find a server status for this project... Is this platform ever going to work unattended for dialup users? I would like to allow the program to connect at it's own pace, but since it fails so often for SETI as well as Climateprediction I can't allow BONIC to tie up my phone at will. I have been providing computing time for almost six years, and since BONIC came, I have had nothing but trouble keeping my system busy. I miss the classic days, where it would just chug along for months with no user intervention at all. If this project is heading for the SETI status...

I thank you both for answering my question, sort of... I am aware of the disable network access ability. It is how I keep Bonic from dialing out willi-nilly when no schedulars answer. The trouble arrises when I spend an hour or so trying to figure out why I get no response... Is the problem mine? I ask myself, not that I can find... Is the problem with the climateprediction server? Not that I can find out... Again, no answer from schedular... Is it running? I don't know...
Will it ansewr some day? I don't know... Should I just drop this daily babysitting of a platform that clearly is not designed for dial-up? I don't know. I want to provide computing power to the project, but it seems the project does not want my help anymore...

As no scheduler would respond, I have detached and reattached to the project. This seems to have caused the server to wake up and respond, I suppose its another bug in the BONIC system. I have no wish to debug programs at home, this project like seti@home asked for computing time. I am very willing to support the project with computation power, as long as it takes no more of my vaulable time. I will monitor the communication between client and server, allowing the client free access. Should BONIC be unable to utilize this access effectivly, I will remove the program and wash my hands of any future BONIC based projects.
I think that a year is fully enough time to create a platform that can function.

I think this is what you want:
If your connection isn't always on:
In the BOINC GUI file menu:
Check: disable network access
(and uncheck it when you are connected and want to send trickles)
That way, you won't get any communications error messages.

If you have messages like deferring communications for...
In the projects tab:
Select the project you want
Right-click
Select update

There is hope for dail-up users. The time stats connection detection code was revamped recently. Hopefully it can be used to detect when communications are possible in the future.

For now using 'disable BOINC network access' when you are not connected is the best workaround.
