After replacing -add_project as stated on your web site with -attach_project I was able to start cpdn on my dual Xeon machines. On one dual-Opteron the job crashes immediately after finishing the download with code 1. The machine runs SuSE-Linux Enterprise Server for AMD64 and has 8GB of RAM, so cpdn should run without problem. This setup runs setathome and other 32bit-applications without problem, therefore the 64bit architecture should not be the problem: 2004-08-17 12:30:28 [---] Starting BOINC client version 4.02 for i686-pc-linux-gnu 2004-08-17 12:30:28 [http://climateprediction.net/] Project prefs: using your defaults 2004-08-17 12:30:28 [SETI@home] Project prefs: using your defaults 2004-08-17 12:30:28 [---] State file has different major version (3.18); resetting projects 2004-08-17 12:30:28 [http://climateprediction.net/] Resetting project 2004-08-17 12:30:28 [SETI@home] Resetting project 2004-08-17 12:30:28 [http://climateprediction.net/] Host ID not assigned yet 2004-08-17 12:30:28 [SETI@home] Host ID is 38939 2004-08-17 12:30:28 [---] General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 2004-07-01 09:28:03) 2004-08-17 12:30:28 [---] General prefs: using your defaults 2004-08-17 12:30:28 [---] CPU scheduler starvation imminent; requesting more work 2004-08-17 12:30:28 [SETI@home] Deferring communication with project for 51 minutes and 13 seconds 2004-08-17 12:30:28 [SETI@home] Deferring communication with project for 51 minutes and 13 seconds 2004-08-17 12:30:28 [---] CPU scheduler starvation imminent; requesting more work 2004-08-17 12:30:28 [http://climateprediction.net/] Requesting 12321 seconds of work 2004-08-17 12:30:28 [http://climateprediction.net/] Sending request to scheduler: http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc_cgi/cgi 2004-08-17 12:30:28 [http://climateprediction.net/] Scheduler RPC to http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc_cgi/cgi succeeded 2004-08-17 12:30:28 [climateprediction.net] Project prefs: using your defaults 2004-08-17 12:30:28 [climateprediction.net] Started download of hadsm3_4.02_i686-pc-linux-gnu 2004-08-17 12:30:28 [climateprediction.net] Started download of hadsm3se_4.02_i686-pc-linux-gnu.zip 2004-08-17 12:30:29 [climateprediction.net] Finished download of hadsm3_4.02_i686-pc-linux-gnu 2004-08-17 12:30:29 [climateprediction.net] Approximate throughput 1280167.299549 bytes/sec 2004-08-17 12:30:29 [climateprediction.net] Started download of hadsm3um_4.02_i686-pc-linux-gnu.zip 2004-08-17 12:30:31 [climateprediction.net] Finished download of hadsm3se_4.02_i686-pc-linux-gnu.zip 2004-08-17 12:30:31 [climateprediction.net] Approximate throughput 1386615.828241 bytes/sec 2004-08-17 12:30:31 [climateprediction.net] Started download of hadsm3data_4.02_i686-pc-linux-gnu.zip 2004-08-17 12:30:31 [climateprediction.net] Finished download of hadsm3um_4.02_i686-pc-linux-gnu.zip 2004-08-17 12:30:31 [climateprediction.net] Approximate throughput 1367747.697186 bytes/sec 2004-08-17 12:30:31 [climateprediction.net] Started download of 03bq_200029295.zip 2004-08-17 12:30:31 [climateprediction.net] Finished download of 03bq_200029295.zip 2004-08-17 12:30:31 [climateprediction.net] Approximate throughput 113893.073924 bytes/sec 2004-08-17 12:30:34 [climateprediction.net] Finished download of hadsm3data_4.02_i686-pc-linux-gnu.zip 2004-08-17 12:30:34 [climateprediction.net] Approximate throughput 1444501.422592 bytes/sec 2004-08-17 12:30:34 [climateprediction.net] Starting computation for result 03bq_200029295_0 using hadsm3 version 4.02 2004-08-17 12:30:35 [climateprediction.net] Unrecoverable error for result 03bq_200029295_0 (process exited with code 1 (0x1)) 2004-08-17 12:30:35 [climateprediction.net] Unrecoverable error for result 03bq_200029295_0 (process exited with code 1 (0x1)) 2004-08-17 12:30:35 [climateprediction.net] Deferring communication with project for 1 minutes and 0 seconds 2004-08-17 12:30:35 [climateprediction.net] Deferring communication with project for 1 minutes and 0 seconds 2004-08-17 12:30:35 [climateprediction.net] Computation for result 03bq_200029295 finished 2004-08-17 12:31:36 [---] CPU scheduler starvation imminent; requesting more work 2004-08-17 12:31:36 [climateprediction.net] Requesting 12321 seconds of work 2004-08-17 12:31:36 [climateprediction.net] Sending request to scheduler: http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc_cgi/cgi 2004-08-17 12:31:36 [climateprediction.net] Scheduler RPC to http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc_cgi/cgi succeeded 2004-08-17 12:31:36 [climateprediction.net] Started download of 03bw_200029301.zip 2004-08-17 12:31:36 [climateprediction.net] Finished download of 03bw_200029301.zip 2004-08-17 12:31:36 [climateprediction.net] Approximate throughput 119060.024235 bytes/sec 2004-08-17 12:31:36 [climateprediction.net] Starting computation for result 03bw_200029301_0 using hadsm3 version 4.02 2004-08-17 12:31:37 [climateprediction.net] Unrecoverable error for result 03bw_200029301_0 (process exited with code 1 (0x1)) 2004-08-17 12:31:37 [climateprediction.net] Unrecoverable error for result 03bw_200029301_0 (process exited with code 1 (0x1)) |

Hi, I looked up this result and it appears that there is a problem with your GLIBC libraries not installed or compatible with our libraries? hadsm3_4.02_i686-pc-linux-gnu: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.3' not found (required by hadsm3_4.02_i686-pc-linux-gnu) |

There was a problem with the libraries of the SuSE Linux Enterprise Server for AMD64 V8. The beta job is running now and currently in the year 1821. Thanks for looking into the problem, the error message was not very specific ;-) ! Armin |

OK, I'd better add this to our "Software Compatibility" for Linux, i.e. you need GLIBC_2.3 |

My machine runs SuSe 8.1 and have only GLIBC_2.2, is there any chance to get the client to work under these conditions. Upgrading to SuSe 9.x is not an alternative and since I already made the mistake trying to upgrade to GLIBC_2.3 (segmentation fault every two mouse clicks) I would like not to change anything in my base system. If there is no chance to bring it to work, how can I delete my account? |
