Climateprediction.net WOWmugs are now available to buy from the University of Oxford Shop:
http://www.oushop.com/acatalog/Climateprediction_net.html

Pour hot water in them and see the climateprediction.net design appear! The message around the top says "What will the climate be like in 2053?"

The mugs were designed and commissioned by participants, and special thanks go to Honza and Martin Sykes.

All the profits go to the project for communication purposes, which means another project open day may be on the horizon...

Yeah, that's great news.
Thanks.

I'm just wondering - there were two variants we have made with Martin - how can one choose which one to buy?

Its just the one shown on all the pictures, black background. Its easier (and cheaper!) to keep it simple for now.
They're estimating 28 days for delivery. I can't wait - all our sample ones have been taken by important visitors who got given cups of tea in them and decided they liked them!

Not available over the counter at the shop? I was hoping to send my son in and save the postage :)

I was even willing to let him keep one as commission.

Oh yes, sorry, they'll be there too from sometime next week (which is just before the end of term, if your son is a student here).

How about a bunch of us CPDNers in the States do a group buy to save postage? Order a group of 30 or so, and then distribute to each individual at a more reasonable rate of $6.50.

Hmmm. The underlying assumption is that we could save a Farthing on shipping from the UK, plus re-distribution across North America. ... And do we get the attention of Homeland Insecurity & Customs importing a big box? (... given that we aren't big Corporate donors to certain entities currently playing with US power. Not to mention that said entities don't give a d*mn about science and are in denial about Climate Change and who knows what barricades they've erected at the borders.)

Whence the $6.50?

Pounds 9.95 ~ US$19.10 per cup. That's before any bit of shipping ... Thirty cups? Pushing a thousand bucks before we're done, eh?

Perhaps there's a US CPDN cruncher whose day-job is Importer...

Good idea, though, LochDhu. Hope you can pull it off.

Cheers,
Jim

For UK delivery, postage is the same whatever the quantity. So for 1 cup it's expensive, but if you buy a few it's very cheap.

>Importer
Following on from Astro's post, if anyone there imports a certain white powder then maybe they can hide the mugs amongst it so as to escape detection.

I'll see if I make another transatlantic trip if I can smuggle a batch of mugs back.

Just how big are these mugs? 'Certain white powder' is apparently smuggled internally, from what I've heard! :)
Perhaps you could cover them with coffee stains, and tell customs that you're a caffeine addict.

Delivery really is a lot, particularly to the US.
I asked why at the shop, and was told that theyre not happy with it, and have tried to find the cheapest way. The only cheaper alternative they could find was surface mail, which can take weeks and therefore makes their delivery times look unacceptable...
sorry. they suggested bulk buying too...

My mugs have just arrived - I'm drinking from one now.

>The message around the top says "What will the climate be like in 2053?"

Actually it is "What will the CLIMATE be... in 2053?" which rolls off the tongue better.
