The sooner we get that PhPBB board back up the better.

Sorry, but the cpdn boinc forums are for discussing the project, not meant for advertising businesses.

You can put your web address link in a signature instead, so that people see it when you post messages.

maybe as a show of good faith the "IT Outsourcers" can do a sulphur cycle, coupled model, buy Mac and AMD64 compilers, make new BOINC work with CPDN, run the servers etc -- for free! ;-)

Good idea, Carl. We could see how good they are.

The poster doesn't seem to have downloaded a parameter set yet. Perhaps they're not serious. :) Have to watch.

I've just posted a reply to a person advertising on the Science board, of all places. These people don't seem to realise that their business performance will be judged here by their cpdn-crunching performance, which is in most cases zilch.

The funny thing is that they hardly ever come back to comment on what we say.

They probably post the same advert on hundreds of message boards, figuring that Google will see lots of references to them and push them nearer to the top of search lists.

That's why we really need a moderator to get rid of such advertisements. No need to have some hapless person see their post and do something silly like visit their web site or think what they have is worthwhile.

My words. Other bad things is that there is no way to contact poster and explain things. CPDN users browsing forum for real information are exposed to such and it may downgrade project in CPDN users eyes. There is nothing much we can do about it on BOINC forum, i'm afraid. Only hope that is doesn't get worse.

Silly me. I’d forgotten an idea that I had some time ago, which would be perfect if the outsourcers really DO want to contribute computer time to our project.

What would be useful, is another 'Top' list. This would include columns for user name, join date, computer type, op sys, and 3 sortable columns. The default one would be the total of models with 'success', followed by '2 phases completed', and '1 phase completed'.
Among other things, it could be used to show people with problems, that cpu/op sys combinations DO work.
Unfortunately, Tolu is far to busy for the idea to be a reality.

And where it falls down is illustrated with hosts like <a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/results.php?hostid=44284"> this.</a>
There are 10 results with the full amount of credit, 72 trickles, and graphs. The only thing missing is the word 'success'.
They seem to have failed at the last moment with this error or very similar:

{core_client_version}4.19{/core_client_version}
{message}process got signal 10
{/message}
{active_task_state}3{/active_task_state}
{signal}10{/signal}
{stderr_txt}
No heartbeat from core client - exiting
zip warning: Too many open files
zip warning: could not open for reading: 2zwgba.ph34c10.x2.nc
zip warning: zip file empty
zip I/O error: Too many open files

zip error: Temporary file failure (zicl3Yi2)

{/stderr_txt}

This is something that Tolu should definately look into when he is creating the 'signed' version of hadsm for Macs.
