I would like to suggest the following changes and/or additions to the BOINC client: 1. Make the tray icon changable so that it looks like a little Earth. 2. The blinking reminder on the tray icon for BOINC is distracting. Have options to turn off the notifying blink, or to have only "red" notifications show. 3. Have an option so that the screen saver is no more hoggy on calculation resources than the old client saver is. When the BOINC screen saver is going it slows down the calculations more than with the old client. Have an option for a saver which is less hoggy. I assume there's an option to not have a screen saver. 4. Try & figure out why the BOINC client is slower in general than the old client. 5. Try and create an AMD Athlon CPU friendly version. The current BOINC client reportely runs faster on Pentiums than on AMDs. The above suggestions are generally in order of precedence - from my perspective. Sincerely, Jonathan Higbee |

1. Make the tray icon changable so that it looks like a little Earth. As this is a Boinc-Problem, and many different projects are participating, it's not very probable , that this will happen ;) 2. The blinking reminder on the tray icon for BOINC is distracting. Have options to turn off the notifying blink, or to have only "red" notifications show. It's gone with the new stable 4.25 Client. And there have even been complaints about the vanishing of this (imho annoying) 'feature ;) 3. Have an option so that the screen saver is no more hoggy on calculation resources than the old client saver is. When the BOINC screen saver is going it slows down the calculations more than with the old client. Have an option for a saver which is less hoggy. I assume there's an option to not have a screen saver. You can tell the references, that it should use less percentage, and less picture frequency over €Seti in the project preferences. Would be a good feature here as well! I support that! 4. Try & figure out why the BOINC client is slower in general than the old client. Other models? Other WU-types, that do more? I plainly don't know, as I never crunched the old one. @Seti it more or less stayed the same. 5. Try and create an AMD Athlon CPU friendly version. The current BOINC client reportely runs faster on Pentiums than on AMDs. Is this really a problem here? my puters are roughly the same speed, although my AMD@home is older (and slower) ten my Intl@work. But in the other projects there is a big OS-sensitivity. never heard of this here, or at least not in that loudness ;) Grüße vom Sänger |

They use the Intel Fortran compiler which heavily optimizes for Intel CPUs, and penalizes, particularly, AMD64 CPUs. A later version of the Intel compiler supposedly does better with AMD CPUS, but CPDN hasn't upgraded to this later version. |

1. Make the tray icon changeable so that it looks like a little Earth. I think that's a great idea. The System Tray icon should reflect the project that is currently crunching, i.e. use the same icons that are used for the web sites (look at the top left of your browser/tab). Since this would only change once every x minutes (where x is defined in your General Preferences), then this should not be a heavy CPU hitter. |
