I've been running ClimatePrediction on my windows laptop for a while without any problems. However, I recently suffered a virus which meant I had to wipe the hard disk and reinstall everything (including BOINC). Now, when I run it, it runs for about fifteen minutes and then causes the computer to suddenly shut down due to overheating. I've noticed that BOINC is using 100% of the CPU power when it is running and I know this wasn't the case before I reinstalled it. Is there any way to reduce the amount of CPU resource it consumes to something that my (new) laptop can handle?

You can get threadmaster to set how much of your CPU to use on a given process. It's linked off the add-ons section. Edit...but I don't know how to use it so good luck.

If you reinstalled from a generic XP CD you will be missing the laptop manufacturer's drivers and utilities. One of these might be a power management utility, which may give you the option to set the speed of the processor to economy, medium or full blast. You can give different settings for battery and mains.
